3800-Turbo Project+ build thread

Post by AkursedX »

I'd like to show you guys a few pics of my completed l26 heads for my turbo fiero project.

Here's some info on them:
L26 heads with 8k miles-$80
Comp 105lb valvesprings/modded retainers/seals-$95
Minor Portwork-free
Competition blended 4-angle valvejob-$325

Total:$500 for a set of ported heads.

Here is a pic of one completed head:

Here's a pic of the exhaust port. I opened up the port about 1/16" all the way around and blended it into the bowl but did not go any further.

Image

The intake port. Once again, the port was widened about 1/16" and this side was gasket matched.
Image

A pic of the freshley ground valves
Image

A couple pics of the chamber and the bowls. The guy who did these is a friend of mine and really hooked me up. Besides the valvejob, he also did some slight bowlwork and radiused the short side for a better transition (I couldn't get a pic of that.)

Here's a couple pics of some other goodies that will be going on to my Fiero rather soon:

LOL, yeah I know, but I didn't have anymore black VHT, so silver it was. I needed to put something on them because they were starting to get a bit of rust on them.

honestly, I don't know what that thing is. It seems like it's some kind of vacuum distribution block. I think the map then connects into that. I think it's going to be run on a gm 2-bar map though.

Thats what it is. I wasn't sure if you knew the application. The one I have on mine right now is plastic and I have to keep the crappy 1 bar in there to plug the hole. I would like to switch to the style you have. GM makes a 2bar that snaps directly into this style if thats something you're interested in, rather than running the big 'brick' fiero style MAP.

Just a quick update. I took my Fiero back down to Sinister Performance a few weeks ago.

I don't have any pics yet, but the project is progressing nicely. My trans is at Triple Edge Performance getting it's performance build. My engine is back together with it's new heads, ARP studs, and a fixed rear-main leak. The engine checked out good and I had no signs excessive knock so I guess I'm doing allright with my tuning.

Now that the engine is together and Ryan has some parts that he's been waiting for, the fabrication process should be starting soon.

If anything, I know this turbo build is going to be pretty different from most of the other builds out there, even Ryan's personal car.

I'll post more updates along the way and hopefully some pics too.

I am wondering what surprises you have in store for me, as I have seen just about everything when it comes to turbo fieros.

Looks great!! That auto trans really allows you to compact the setup nicely. I couldn't get my turbo that close due to the shift linkages, etc, but it looks much better close to the plenum like that!

Yeah they are both stainless powerlogs with the outlet flanges cut off and V-bands added.

The turbo is a Master Power T-61. I can't remember the exact specs on it though. I bought is from FieroX, he has a posting about what he offers in the vendor section. I did some research and it seems like Master Power is a decent brand. They are made in Brazil and are a ISO-9001 company.

I have him beat in the number of power adders...

We will see who beats who this summer I am sure, we both will be going to the track together numerous times I imagine.

setup looks pretty good. Wastegate placement could be better but based on the pics, its hard to say if you mounted it in a different location if there wouldhave been interference wiht other things.

Where you have it located now you will get reversion of flow to the turbo hurting power
FieroPhrek working on that ls4 swap for 18 years and counting now. 18 years!!!!! LOL

Didn't really have a choice on the wastegate. I had to put it in a location accessible so it could be adjusted or disassembled to change the spring. The strut tower was also a factor on where it could be put. I've seen them installed in worse places. But I'm willing to bet this setup will work just fine.

The car is nearing completion. The last big component, the intercooler, was ordered today. Hopefully it'll be in next week some time. After that, it should be a matter of tying up some small things and getting a tune on it (hopefully the weather will agree)
