Freeware Anti Virus?

Anyone know of any good free anti-virus software? I hesitate to google it because some of them are viruses themselves. I used to have a good free one on my old desktop. I got this desktop for free from a friend and have just been using it. Come to find out I've got spyware on here somehow, despite me not downloading anything at all. Maybe it was already here.

AVG, SpyBot, and Adaware are the 3 really good programs I use.

Well I got AVG to start with, thats the one I used to have. Found 3 spyware items and like 9 infected cookies. I need to dump this computers hard drive and install tinyXP.
