Am I missing something... or... does the entire rear suspension tie into the car via only the transmission?!

That's correct. F50 powertrain is structural, as with a Formula 1 car.

Not exactly, there are also two links connecting to the top of the bell housing. They have heim joints on the ends, and you can see them come from 10 and 2 o'clock and cross over the exhaust manifold heat shields.

There is no reason you cant use the drive train as a structural component, it allows you to reduce weight while increasing strenght of the powertrain.

We rebuilt a tractor one time that was designed this way. It had a loader and backhoe attached and the owner split it in half. But that was from misuse. In fact most tractors are built this way.

P.S. This was an oil change not a clutch change.

I replace the clutch in a 348 a while back. It took about an hour and a half. The 348's clutch is located at the rear of the gearbox. First, you remove the muffler, then unbolt and remove the clutch housing. Sure beats having to split the car in half to replace a wear item.
