Opening day at zMax Dragway

Post by Jinxmutt »

Well the fiero let me down. I was targeting 19psi the past few days and its been dead on. I get to opening track day, and the thing locks in at 15psi. I commanded more but I still only hit 15. I was about to make another pass and the track closed the lanes.

So unfortunately I didn't get to run it on 19-22 like I have been on the street to and from school, lol

Personal best:

60: 2.051
330: 5.533
1/8: 8.146
MPH: 95.15
1000: 10.318
E.T. 12.141
MPH: 121.81

Also a faster MPH:

60: 2.126
330: 5.668
1/8: 8.247
MPH: 95.89
1000: 10.392
E.T. 12.171
MPH: 123.26

Car held together, and I still have my DD. :) Everyone at the track was comin up to the car when I looking at logs, etc and were completely puzzled. They were like, "Ok, I just have to know what the heck is in this thing". Atleast 20 people throughout the day, that was a good feeling. I'll have some video soon. Hopefully I can get to the track next week and get this thing to 20psi.

11s, here we come!!!

(BTW: shifting to 5th gear in teh 1/4mi is ftl. My logs show 120.5 at 6186. My rev limit is 6200 and I hit it trying to hold out 4th

Nice times all considering. I don't doubt that you could get into the mid 11's or better when she's running the way she should!

Those are some great MPH's! You definitely have some solid 11's in that thing. I know you are probably still lauching it easy, but you should still be able to cut at least a low 1.9 60ft. 123mph at 15psi is really good. You'll probably be pushing the 130mph mark on the higher boost levels.

Glad to hear it held together and looking forward to some more runs.

Wow, great numbers! Imagine that, a reliable 11 second fiero.

Make sure to tell us what was holding you out boost wise. A vaccuum line or maybe the actuator?

I don't have my baro offset table set up in the boost control settings. Also, I set my feedback comp to a max duty cycle of 10%. I didn't realize this til I got home and i was sorting through the logs. It was commanding 10% more DC to try to reach boost target but it wasn't enough. I initially set that low so it couldn't overcompensate, I didn't really trust it. Now I know that I need to give that a max of about 25% for situations like these. It showed a boost error of -3 and -5, etc, but it was at the max correction of 10% so it couldn't do anything.

Here is a video of one run against a turbocharged "Boss" Mustang. It had some black BOSS stripe on the hood and fender. Probably doesn't mean much since he turbocharged it so it could be anything now. Hard to tell from the vid but I was reeling him in and trapped 3mph higher. (I don't do burnouts)

Heres the other one, I think that is a turbo Lexus.

Nice runs and hell of a MPH--Car really comes to life on the backhalf. 11s are there forsure with just a little more out of it. Being a 5 speed really makes the times shine---

fucking awesome dude. That mph is amazing on 15 psi. I would say its around 450 whp on 15 lbs of boost based on your mph. Good E'ts too considering you got out slow. I wouldn't worry too much about that. Its obvious you have a mid 11 sec car with a hard launch. Not worth it to grenade the tranny though.

Faster then someones turbo'd 383 lt1 with a turbo as well. Funny, not even a turbo'd v8 fiero can run faster then a turbo v6!!!

I wonder what you'd run with a 4T65 and 22psi.................................... 123 is baller.

MotorTV is joke shaun, we all know. 850HP was the claim, 400 was the dyno. 14 was his time because he "wasn't trying". That car sucks, it just does. MotorTV if you read this before you try to double check you've negged me of Old Europe get off your ass and live up to your claims. It was supposed to be the fastest fiero ever...

traps should be in the 133-135 area with 22+psi... You have a T70 on that right?

So, basically a mid to low 10 second car from a roll.
My fiero is cheaper than yours. The end.

yeah, its a MP T70. The problem with going this fast is that I have to shift to 5th. I wish I had a 282 4th gear so I can get atleast 130 in 4th.

I'm going to launch off the 2-step in 2nd so that I can eliminate that one shift. It still hurts me to go into 5th though, its a rather slow shift. I'm going to play with some calculators to see what difference it'll make to bump up my limiter.

Feh, no you don't. Think about it, you've got a 4.11(?) final now. Switching up to a 3.61 would slow you down considerably and you wouldn't have to worry about trapping too fast.

I've mused about launching in 2nd, but I've also seen some 1/4 mile simulators (Desktop Drag, maybe?) that say that the short first and wicked acceleration REALLY helps times, even though the gear itself is only used for a short duration.

I have a .98 4th gear and a 3.94 final drive. Miata tirecalc says my tire diamter is 27.6 (245/55/17), but in reality the calculations are coming out to work best with a 25" tire. (logs show at 6000 rpm I'm between 115 and 116)

With these numbers it looks like I need over 6700 rpm to get to 130mph. Thats higher than I want to rev to with my 105 springs and stock bottom end.

Your logs have no idea what your tire diameter is.

The AEM takes the raw vss value and then converts it to mph. I adjusted the values until the mph exactly matches my gps provided speed. Its accurate at 20, 80, and everywhere in between.
Shaun41178(2) wrote:do they run all 4 lanes at that track?
No, they can legally only run one side at a time due to insurance reasons.

Ahh... so you have calibrated it. Cool.

For some reason, different tire MFG's use different millimeters. It's strange.
