Free truck

Post by lucky »

Apparently, I'm getting one. 94 f150 straight 6 auto. 180k still running strong, getting rusty. My folks are buying a frontier. Decided to just give it to me instead of selling it for next to nothing.

Anyone know anything about the way they set up the frame on these? I almost wanna start hunting for a 4 door cab to paint and prep then swap, get the wife off my back about a family vehicle (she wants to start baby making in the next month). The cab corners and parts of the bed are rotten, everything else is great. If a different cab will almost bolt on, and I could use it in the mean time I'd be golden, because we're also looking at buying her mothers house, and that too needs some work.

What length frame is it? If it is a shortbed you won't have room to a bed on it after you do a cab swap. Also consider you will need the bed from a short bed truck if it is a longer chassis. Might be more cost effective to try to sell this one for all you can get and just buy a quad cab truck. The market on the big gas trucks isn't phenominal right now, they are more expensive than they were say 3-4 months ago, but a bigger engined, older truck should not be terribly pricey.

first, you cant swap a crew cab onto a regular cab frame, you would need a crew cab frame.

second, take it from a guy that has a "family vehicle truck" a '90 extned cab is plenty roomy and easy to get the chitlens into and out of, the seats slide forward and provide ample room to sit/kneel and buckle them in.

1/2 ton trucks are a dime a dozen. my v8 4x4 ext cab cost $900, and I drive it as purchased. Can easily do 100 mile round trip without hesitation.

cotous auto parts in willimantic CT will have all the frames/ cabs, and parts you need. But not worth the effort to swap.

searchtempest.com extend cab 150 miles of your zip. max price 1500, and talk them down to 1k. sell the truck you got for that.

That's the thing. If I want it I can have it; if it's gonna get sold, they're gonna sell it. It is a longbed, not an extended cab, just a bench seat. I already found a complete rust free 4 door cab in lowell, ma on car-part for $450. I'm in the research and pondering stage now, I won't even get it for a couple weeks. There's also something to be said about keeping the truck that I know is mechanically sound and has been properly maintained for at least the last 100k vs taking my chances on a cheap truck I know nothing about.
