Starting a 2.0L w/ pics

Post by Atilla the Fun »

I had the lame idea to do this swap, and since noone else has posted anything about it, here goes. I'm not showing removing it from the '85 Cavalier, these first pics are just getting it sitting on the cradle.

I'm a bit concerned about the position of the alternator.

That a/c bracket is useful without the a/c compressor.

Good to see the exhaust wants to go well forward of the cradle's front cross rail.

this also clears adequately.

I can't get it any farther forward on the cradle, but maybe with it this far back, the alternator might clear.

lastly for today, time to measure again, now that the block is bolted to the mount that's bolted to the cradle. I measured it all before starting the mounting. the mounting isn't done yet, the blocks of wood will not be staying.

It started at about 4.125" from the driver's side seal to the rail, now it's about 5". now for the other side, which was also about 4.125" before.

slight problem. May have to redo the engine mounting if I can't resolve this just by swinging the driver's side end of the TH forward.

Go to photogallery > my cars > 84 simply red coupe. His car has a 2.0L swap, may be worth contacting him if you needed help. As far as I know very few people have done this.

If you can find turbo sunbird stuff, that would be pretty cool too.

What's the matter with using Fiero mounts for the TH125?

Why fab mounts and brackets when the factory already made them for you?

Because I don't have any, nor money to buy any. I had $100 to play with this month, I sent Aaron half for a shifter and stuff, then spent $35 on my lady, so I gould get me some, and that leaves $15, which isn't enough for mounts. But otherwise, you're right, I should just use what GM intended and mass-produced. Still, it's good practice for thinking up mounting. I think I'll put that other Dodge truck mount on the rear. Everyone else, thank you all for the input.

Isn't the OHV 2.0L only rated at like 84-90HP and the duke was 92-95HP?
