The extent of my logged drive time behind the wheel has been the long sum of 30 minutes - I've got to get another valve cover, the one I have is cracked and is putting drops of oil on the exhaust mani. In that time, I have enjoyed the three speed automatic. The ONLY thing that's irritated me, is that the transmission wouldn't shift up until I brought the engine speed up to 2500 rpm. This was somewhat annoying because the turbo spools so early, it would be nice if I could get the car to speed and then get to a point where I don't have to spool the turbo to maintain speed.

I wired the intercooler fan to the AC relay, and axe'd the AC wiring. I wired the control side of the relay to the fuel pump PCM trigger. So when I turn the key over, the intercooler gets a quick prime, and then runs normally with the pump when the car starts. I bought another motor for the push fan, this one from a 1989 Mazda 626, the body is larger and much much quieter than the Ford version. I really couldn't be happier, the fit/look, low noise, and functional.

The next thing to do was to get all of the paint off the intercooler. Aerospace paint stripper did the trick.

I spent about 30 mins sanding the castings marks down with 500, 1000, and 2000 grit paper. I did a simi ok job of polishing, I'll get really friendly with it later.

Pop's car. Makes a Fiero feel like a skateboard at 130mph.

Materials:
  • * Nason Select Prime 421-19
    * Nason Ful-Base PRN
    * Nason 498-00 Select-Clear 2K + High Temp activator (70 degree weather)
Two more to paint.

Thanks dude! Only thing we weren't able to get to was the engine bay, because the only way I'd have done it would have been to pull the engine and spray the entire bay correctly. We didn't feel it was worth the effort.

Now that just about everything's out of the way, I'm able to get back to the Fiero - finally. My sister put the nose of the Sebring under an SUV a bit ago. We've got to get another hood for it, but that can wait, I've been putting my shit on the back burner long enough.

I chassy primed and painted the space frame on the Fiero today, front to back. I'll have pictures of that tomorrow.

I took this yesterday evening:

I've been piddling around at Pocket's the past few days.. which ummm... well it's always a fun time at Pocket's (Disclaimer: Unless you're a Mormon of course).

Get the FACK out! 5.3 + M90 out.

Image

Pulled an L03 out of another car. I'm not allowed to show what it came out of. The 5.3 will supersede the L03 in said car.

Held my breath for the new 6.0 (+ other shizzle) goodness.

Went through a jug of GOJO. Drank a little beer. Feels good mang.

I told myself I was just going to drop showroom quality pictures when I finished this car's paint job, but this picture gives me such a hard on I couldn't resist. I'm about a week away from being done painting (not including color sanding and polishing).

I really need to offload this fucking car. It makes me so god damn mad I live in the US owning it. If I lived in the UK, I could pick up the Cosworth head/engine/assembly for $300. I could go to my local yard and get an F23 with the correct bellhousing for $60. I could build a one off 300hp Fiero that weighed 2650, kick the pants off the typical Fiero crowd, and be unique as the hope diamond. Hell I could even slap an F28 on it and call it a day with an oldschool six speed. And I could do it VERY cheaply if I lived there. I can't do ANYTHING to it without spending lots of money to import parts. I need to be focusing on the engine I'm gifted living in the US, the stone age 3800. It's just sad, because a Cosworth engine in the back of the Fiero is such a neat idea.
