How to detail a car, if one were insane.

That guy is criminally insane. It's a $25,000 car. His detail job is worth more than the car is.
To be honest, I don't care for it either. The car looks decent and I bet is funish to drive, but all his add ons aren't for me.

Will, I don't see how that compares. Your link is basic car detailing. Certainly not neurotic.

Just using this thread as a notepad.

Fair enough. I was reading the topic, thinking to myself, "I do this every weekend".

I grew up pulling engines, but never touched a can of wax... I need to keep a notebook of detailing info.
Re: How to detail a car, if one were insane.
Gotcha! No problem at all then, mark away.
I was actually detailing three cars earlier.
Pictures taken a few hours ago. It's very important to have the right kind of help.
Wash.
Wheel shine and drying. Claybar. Polish.
Wax on and off.
Cutoff bottom jeans are optional for your workers, but I recommend them! Cheers.

Re: How to detail a car, if one were insane.
A friend of mine is a rep for a car wash products company and he gave me a bottle of all of their products. I've been happy with their quick detailer products and their leather and interior products but I hadn't tried their actual car wash.
You're supposed to put several ounces in a bucket with water, but you don't wet the car, you use a microfiber towel and dunk it in the water and wipe the car off with the towel. The product is supposed to suspend dirt and lubricate the surface of the paint so you don't scratch the paint with dirt. Then you follow behind with a dry microfiber and wipe the car off because the product has wax in it. So you never hose the car off. The paint on this car is really meh, so I figured I'd try it out. I did cheat and hosed off the mud and grime off around the wheel wells and bumpers, I don't trust the product to get sandy mud off the car haha.
Before
After, used their tire shine, and then some back to black
The car is getting clayed and actually waxed soon, but I figured I'd give it a shot.

Is it Optimum No Rinse (ONR)? If not sounds like something similar to ONR, which is a miracle product that actually works. It smells like raspberry bubblegum too. You put one ounce in 2 gallons of water, and then wash your car with it. You don't rinse the car first. You just soak it up onto your sponge or noodly microfiber mit (my preferred media), wipe down a panel, and then dry it. It has surfactants and other Super Fancy Chemistry to suspend and encapsulate dirt so it doesn't mar while you're washing.CincinnatiFiero wrote:A friend of mine is a rep for a car wash products company and he gave me a bottle of all of their products. I use it almost every week to wash two black cars --- and one of them is BMW Jet Black, which is NOTORIOUS for its soft clearcoat which is susceptible to wash-induced marring. ONR works. It doesn't leave marring. It also leaves behind some protectant that adds to the gloss. It takes me about 15 minutes to wash my Outback. Adding to its unbelievable performance, it also chemically softens hard water, so it doesn't leave behind hard water deposits if you accidentally let it dry on the surface... and it cleans windows really well too. It's also a great clay lube when concentrated to 2 oz per gallon, and is a quick detailer at 8 oz per gallon. Did I mention it also smells like raspberry bubblegum?
I buy it in gallon jugs, which last a little over a year washing an average of two cars a week, plus using it for clay lube and quick detailer. http://www.autogeek.net/opnoriwash12.html
Optimum also makes a car wax which is as unbelievably awesome as the No Rinse wash. It's a mix of carnauba wax and synthetic waxes. You spray it on (only a tiny bit) and wipe it off with a microfiber. You don't have to let it dry and then buff it off. If you DO let it dry on the panel, it dries clear, not white. You can use it on plastic trim and it makes it look black again, and it stays that way. I think there is a genie working in the chemistry department at Optimum...
Autogeek has the wax too http://www.autogeek.net/opcarwa1ga.html

So should this be the uber geek's detailing thread now?

Re: How to detail a car, if one were insane.
Well it rained and the water beaded on my car fairly well, not as good as with a conventional wax, but definitely better than it did last week.

Good point; I should have mentioned that. I always order through Amazon but the Autogeek site has more product info so thats why I linked to their site.Aaron wrote:$5 cheaper by the gallon on amazon:

The funny thing is, Palm Beach Motoring Accessories (the seller on Amazon) is Autogeek. I don't know why the pricing doesn't match.

If you didn't think that stuff was like putting liquid angel essence on your car, it's probably not much like ONR.

I will pick up a bottle of ONR in the future and give it a shot.

That almost sounds like a line from a porno.
