How about 1500 hp Lambos and 1200 hp Vipers sound? Nah, this looks stupid. Give me the Fiero show in Daytona any day over this.

I think the Gallardo is the new Supra. They are fairly affordable and the mod potential is huge. When I'm done with my Skyline in a few years I'll seriously consider buying a slightly used one from the states. Gorgeous and huge potential. I like it!

I prefer the 430, and now, the 458, but I guess I'd take a Lambo. I really prefer the Murcielago SV, but "affordability" rockets out the window on that one

The LP560 is FSI, but it is a 5.2L, unsure about the pre-08 5.0s.

The 5.0 Gallardo is port injected while the 5.2 Gallardo's are FSI.

Motec, Pectel, etc.

From watching that video, twin turbo 1500 HP Gallardos must be falling out of the sky in Dallas.

Way to miss my .NL joke, I love how quick those guys are to take functional, tuneable factory, perfectly working factory computers and hack megasquirt onto it.

Do you really think a european fanboy like my self who is against modding cars REALLY thinks megasquirt is a real possibility on a lambo?

Ok, you got us.
I am curious about what aftermarket ECU can control an FSi anything, let alone TT V10.

And having AWD with a strong enough driveline to handle 1500 HP in a 3200# package is pretty damned amazing.

Any idea of the cost of the work involved? I'm assuming rods/pistons, probably crankshaft... but production heads with the production block sleeved. However, in this day and age it could be a billet block. What kind of driveline mods?

Is this a $200K car with $50K of work or a $200K car with $200K of work?

I want to say most of the guys choose to run a motec ECU setup. I could be wrong though. I wanna say motecs start in the 3k dollar range and go up from there.

Its not so much the cost of the motec, its the hourly cost of the dyno time and person qualified and capable of setting up the car properly.

It depends on what you get. Motecs are highly configurable, but almost every option takes another external module. The basic ECU that controls fuel and spark is pretty reasonable, but you add $$ for everything: SFI w/ >6 cyl, variable cam phasing, coil per cylinder w/ >6 cyl, electronic throttle, traction control

But there are add-ons for everything you can do with an engine in motorsport, so there's no limit to what you can do (or spend!) with a Motec.

And that's a significant cost also. The tuner I consulted about getting my S62 running wanted $800 to map out the simple system and $1000 to map out the higher end system he recommended.

Right thats what I'm saying, an expensive ECU is half the battle and half the cost.

Did that $800-$1000 "mapping out" include any kind of dyno tuning? Is that getting it running, or optimizing it?

That's dyno tuning. He also wanted $1000 to wire either one into the car, but I can do that myself.

Considering the GIAC tune merely flashed onto the ECM of my friends Flying Spur was north of $4,000, and the reflash he went with was on the cheaper end at... $3,000. I bet dyno tuning for a lamborghini would be quite pricey just based on the badge.

This is why I drive a turbodiesel benz, I can have my tuning done by V8Archie and the folks at craftsman

What really drives the price up is the volume of the market... IE, tiny for exotics. There really isn't a lot of difference in how to hack different MFG's ECM's. You have to figure out how to get them to spill their brains out the diagnostic port or databus; put the resulting binary together and disassemble/decompile it; figure out what you have to edit to change what you need to change; put it back together into a binary; figure out how to flash it back into the ECM. The effort is predictable, nonetheless non-trivial.

That's not really hugely complicated for one manufacturer over another, and unless the manufacturer completely overhauled the software, it probably closely resembles what the last model had, even if the hardware is vastly different.

But if you only have a few hundred cars on which to recoupe that effort, the price will necessarily be pretty high compared to a market with thousands or tens of thousands of cars and customers.
