There's nothing wrong with the coil pack. It works fine. In fact, for aftermarket ECU's it's a pretty easy solution as it provides logic level triggering signals and only requires one ignition output from the ECU.

Also, isn't port work pretty expensive for a LeMons/Chump car?

they don't support the LX9, only the VVT engines. the 3500 coil pack is different than the earlier 60V6 coil pack. from what I can see, it's 3 or 6 logic coils in one integrated capsule. the crank and cam position signals are sent directly to the PCM and then the PCM fires the coils individually.

Interesting... so what I said only applies to the older coil packs.

Are the VVT engines too expensive for a LeMons/Chump build? With the production numbers and age of the units at this point, I can't see them being expensive. Last I checked the LZ9 was under $500 at yards.

If VVT is supported its more reason to try on of those engines, a junkyard probably doesn't care if it has it or not as far as price goes, if i wanted to find a cam for that motor, I'm sure it would be a very challenging affair.

Port work, I consider free. I own a die grinder, a carbide, and it doesn't stay with the car when I race, its a tool, available to the average consumer at HF. I'm not into paying other people for work I can accomplish myself. No one (except WOT-Tech) specializes in these motors, so paying someone else to guess as much as I would on port work just doesn't make sense to me. And even then, Ben doesn't have several of race teams pushing his development to make the heads on the V6's the best they should be. Most of his customers own a $3000 Grand Am with a slushbox. There are only a few people, from what I see in that community, that take the time to look at what they are even bolting on first. The situation with the Estonian Gentleman and his 3400 in his Capri, he received 3100 head with 1mm smaller valves, when he paid for the best head Ben could produce was an eye opener for me about the level of "Expertise" being used to put some of that stuff together. Ben is providing a unique service and i wish him success in the market, but because of the nature of what he is working with, I'm inclined to think I could be better just figuring a lot of what I want from either this 3.4 or any other 60DV6, on my own, or at least triple checking all my figures, that being said, I did come to the same conclusion that he did as far as valve springs for the DOHC.

New valve springs and retainers are on the way. I just didn't want to risk bouncing a valve off a piston.

I thought it was worthwhile to add, Ben's pricing at WOT-Tech was the best i could find for those springs also.

I'm Back to work for the US-Dyno Maker.

This engine is up on the shelf wrapped up awaiting me to make a crank and bellhousing adapter for the dyno.

I've got some new coated skirt Silvolite pistons and Mahle rings to put in it too.
OSE12P parts have been here for a while, need to make sure my NVRAM battery is still good, I need find the ECU connecter.

This car is still sitting, as it has been for the last 5 years, different location now, about a 1/2 hour drive from me.
I have pulled the LQ1 out of storage, and will be prepping it for dyno sessions at my work on the R&D engine Dyno, some logistics to work out.

I never updated this with the fuel cell mounting. We did this in 2017. And we made some 1/4 x 1" steel straps to reinforce the flor for the seat mounting. The cell needs to be fully contained in a secondary containment. So this is a box for it's box.

Hey fellow racer,

Just an FYI, LeMons rules prohibit the fuel cell location you show. I wanted a fuel cell in that location too. We've just been making the OE tank work until the new (thirstier) engine forces us to place a fuel cell up front.

Good luck getting it on track!

We have given up on LeMons racing and are only interested in Champ/Chump events.
