1980 300SD, time to learn how the old tractor engine 61X series mercedes motors work, it turns over really strong but it won't start, not getting fuel. The plan.... is to get it running in the car, then part the car out and keep the motor for a future swap down the road. An animal ate the glow plug wiring harness, got that fixed today, but hot cylinders don't make a difference when there isn't any fuel.

I'll channel Atilla for you: "You should so get rid of that Nazi junk and swap in an Olds 4.3 diesel. Everybody who swaps that engine is guaranteed 62 mpg under all conditions even if they swap it into a tank"

Funny you say that, a guy stopped in to my garage the other day with a Caprice 5.7 diesel, he said in the community they call it the iceberg or something because of how dangerous and fragile it is.

They have their devotees, obviously, but I read enough about those that the only thing I want ever to do with one would be to drop it off at the scrap yard.

A VW 1.9 TDi can make more power more reliably, weigh half what the GM diesel does and at least equal it in gas mileage.

I found a rear ended 4.3 buick with like 77,000 miles on it on CL for $600 and I got all excited, then I realized its rated at 85HP, and I have a 2.2L Mercedes 4cyl rated at, you guessed it, 85hp on the shelf. I'd really like to make my Dakota into a diesel, but I don't know that I want to invest the time, but thats sort of why I picked up this '80, its a 3.0L 5cyl turbo with like 127HP which would move a dakota around.
