Cars & Coffee 130413 in Great Falls, VA

Post by The Dark Side of Will »

Not sure whether the Cars and Coffee idea started at the specific location in Great Falls, but I'm sure many of you have heard of the concept by now...

Instead of a cruise night, it's a cruise morning. Car guys with cool cars show up at a coffee shop usually around 6 a.m. and take over the parking lot for a couple of hours. It's usually winding down by 9.

Loudoun and Fairfax counties in VA have the highest median income in the NATION, and the ridiculous amount of money this entails is obvious in the cars that show up in Great Falls for C&C. It's enough to make me jaded.

I heard there was going to be something special there on the 13th, so I went.

Without further ado, the guest of honor:

...just a Bugatti

Something I hadn't realized from the magazine articles.... that's not a beauty cover... that's the engine

At any "normal" C&C, there are half a dozen 430's and 458's, and usually at least one of every V8 Ferrari from the 308 on. I didn't bother to take any photos of those because they're *just* 458's...

Other things that caught my eye

Street rod Austin:
Image

Subeam Tiger... like a Shelby Cobra, but not as famous. It's a little British sports car (Sunbeam Alpine) with a Ford 289 under the hood

And I thought The Mule had a tight engine bay:

Hussied up Toyota... Ironically rarer in NoVA than Ferraris

Reasonably badass Porsche

Couple of BMW's

Just a McLaren... Yawn...

Image

Rossion... pleased to find that someone has taste in addition to money

Some '80's Ferrari

Guitar

Lancia Vulva-- I mean Fulvia

Reasonably nice Pantera

Reasonably badass Pantera (He's a regular)

Corvair pickup truck... My dad had the van version of this when I was growing; we'd take it camping and on trails. Wild to see one here

Ariel Atom with Honda K-series power

Badge engineered Lamborghini

Wouldn't be complete without a Fiero owner embarrassing the community

Hundreds and hundreds of cars that morning... that's bigger than most days, probably because of the hype. Maybe three who turn their own wrenches...

I've been thinking of taking The Mule, even as ugly as it is, just to see what kind of reaction I get.

The spank bank is full will, thanks for those.

I'm down in Florida with my girlfriend but the dash is getting upholstered on my 190SL right now, that picture makes me itch to get driving it again.

Cars and coffee in ohio is much lower brow, however its all guys that work on their own cars. I mean its far from junk there areTTRSes, handful of GTRs including an alpha12, ford GT, lots of supras, the occasional diesel Mercedes, and M cars out the wazoo, just no Ferraris usually or bugattis. Hell for the longest time there actually wasn't a veyron registered in ohio, that may still be true.

Went again last Saturday...

TWO F@#$ing McLarens...

F40, Countache, Rossion, Noble, Pantera, Ford GT, GT40 replica, Lister Jaguar kit with LS7 power pushing 550+ to the wheels... and a bunch of Ferraris. Unfortunately didn't have my camera with me. It's usually in my backpack, but was on the charger instead last weekend.

There's a cruise-in at the Lowe's parking lot Friday nights that's much more of the wrench-it-yourself crowd. I haven't been there very much unfortunately.

I'm doing the AFPAK Hands program. http://www.afghanwarnews.info/afpakhands.htm

So I'll be in language and other training around the area until I deploy in Feb. I think when I come back in '15 I'll be in the Pentagon until my next deployment though.

Interesting stuff... I've been curious about going to Afghan or Paki. The opportunity is ALWAYS there for a SeaBee, BUT the next time I'd have that opportunity, I'd be a batallion S3 or similar, so I would probably not get much interaction with the local people. Traversing the city and being able to talk to local people and businessmen was one of the things I liked most about my tour in Iraq.

These will actually be my first deployments. Being in nuclear operations, there really isn't any need for us to deploy being that we do our mission here. In theory I should have plenty of interaction with the locals. I'm excited for the training and doing the actual mission as well.

Katie's (Great Falls) is always has a great turnout as long as the weather is good. 200+ on a regular Saturday am thru the summer and each week something different shows up. There is also a C&C at Kohl's 12551 Fair Lakes Circle Fairfax on Sunday AM. Starts around 8 am (at Katie's if your not there at 6:30 am you park on the moon) and goes till about 10:30. It's smaller with better parking, more clubs show up a and on occasion we do get an ultra rare multi million dollar car roll thru.... Check out carloveDC.com for a great listing of all the action in the DC metro area.... type kohls in the search area

TWO AMG SLS gullwings and ANOTHER Bugatti (this one with a Kuwaiti/Arab license plate) last Saturday.

Also C4 and C6 ZR1's and the usual compliment of everything else.

Every Saturday morning from 6 am to about 9 am.

It's at the Old Brogue Irish Pub in Great Falls, which also houses Katie's Coffee shop: http://goo.gl/maps/UtK62
