Fiero HVAC is it....?

Post by Identity Crisis »

Is the Fiero HVAC, an electronic unit, vacuum or cable controlled?

I never liked the way it looked and I am trying to figure out if it can be swapped out with another unit, be it from a Pontiac, other manufacturer or a universal unit from after market.

Cheers

An electric motor servo controls the system.

The cold air / heat door is cable operated. If you can find a HVAC control head with a similiar setup it should be easy to convert.

EDIT:

If your car does'nt currently have AC then the doors are all cable actuated.

For clarification, cars that were shipped without AC from Pontiac came with a double slider panel, with two cables operating both temperature selection and vent selection. This was sort of a rare option though. Most cars have the slider for heat selection, and the buttons above it for vent selection - the slider controls a cable, the buttons of course control a servo.

There have been several retrofits, Grand Am and the like I think. It's time consuming. These guys who swap interiors, engines, electronics, etc might as well purchase a new car, they're throwing that much time to the wind on something that's worthless. But they're the ones who have changed the head unit.

I would guess the majority of Canadian Fieros came with the manual sliders. Of the 6 Fieros I had, only 1 used the push buttons.

Good point, who's needs AC in Kanada? And you're both up there, so good chance he'll run into a few. Its the opposite down here, I've seen one double slider unit ever.

I don't think I've ever seen a non-AC Fiero!

Nor have I, and I've owned a handful of absolute base model iron duke garbage parts cars. The 10k mile 84 I have is a steel wheel, crank window, manual lock, 4speed car, and its got AC.

Kru had an orange 88 coupe w/o AC. It was the first one I had seen w/o and the last I have seen as well.

I think I've seen all of two non-A/C cars... obviously never owned one.
