"Rush" - Awesome movie
I just saw Rush today. See it. Buy it.
It's an instant classic that every hardcore gearhead needs to have in his collection.
It's a docudrama about the duel for the world championship between Niki Lauda and James Hunt in the 1976 F1 season.
No blatant violations of physics (this is obviously a big one for me)
Good historical (AFAICT, not being a student of 1976 F1 in particular) accuracy.
GREAT shot planning
Beautiful visuals, particularly offset by the internal Go-Pro style views of the cars from inside the suspension while in motion, etc. For the most part technically ACCURATE depictions of period F1 cars. There's one shot where you can see the fuel being pulled off the throttle plates by the airstream.
Good casting, good acting, brilliant cinematography. Credits had a pretty hardcore collection of central European names.
Oh yeah, more tits than I expected (still not a lot), too... although none of them were Olivia Wilde's.

Saw it tonight, highly recommended. Loved it. Went with some car buddies we had a great time, we did take my buddies 12 year old son, and I think he enjoyed the quantity of boobies.

Yes, quite the awesome movie. It's been awhile since I went into a movie with fairly high expectations and came out pleased.

I'm on vacation in Charleston again, but I've been waiting for this fucker to come out for a while...
Just bought two tickets. If I'm not destroyed drunk when I get back in I'll talk about how good it was.

Huh. I didn't like it that much. Too many unlikeable characters and not enough racing. Also the spark plug missing in that combustion chamber "action clip" they kept using was annoying. The CG was pretty terrible too, in stark contrast to the excellent shots of real cars.

I read the racing was limited by the studios insurance company. Ron Howard wanted a lot more racing but wasn't allowed to shoot some of the stuff he wanted to because of liability concerns.

Re: "Rush" - Awesome movie
yeah, there was some cheesy CGI; no where near as horrible as "Driven", which still has my vote for most horrible racing movie of all time. I took the combustion chamber shot as an accent shot showing how each driver was getting into his zone; I thought it was an overlay/montage device like Oliver Stone uses.Series8217 wrote:Huh. Weren't F1 drivers back then jerks anyway?

I think the point of the movie was to show that they were arrogant, eccentric, playboy assholes.
Pretty much all I've ever read about niki lauda is that he's a brilliant, dick. He's incredibly talented and isn't bothered about telling you about it lol.

Loved it! The CGI was unusually bad, and the camera work during the races was dodgy to the point where you couldn't enjoy the driving, but I loved the story and directing. Hunt's character was a bit more whimsical than I thought he deserved, but oh well. The graphic scenes were excellent! The crashed car with a body still in it without the head..

It almost played like they wanted Heath Ledger for the James Hunt role.
He had some great lines, though. "Find some worthless gimmick that needs your vapid smut to flog it"

"Why would anyone watch it?"
"We'll add some race cars and boobies!"
"BRILLIANT!"
Sigh. Too bad they had to limit the racing so much.

I have it, but haven't watched it. I heard it's mostly actual race footage. The Dark Side of Will wrote:You've seen Steve McQueen's Le Mans, right?
