Wheel fitment

Hey guys...

Looking to see what the max 17'' wheel width and tire size i can get with an 88 Fiero gt (with coil overs) in a perfect world i want...

17x9 front

17x10 rear

will that fit?

(assume i have a wide body kit and i dont care if it sticks out of the fenders...i care about if it will rub on the inside...thanks!!

Offset and back spacing plays a roll just as much as the actual width of the wheel.

Im actually getting custom hubs made from coleman racing, he's looking at making the offset what i need, bcc what i would like on my car are the volk te37v in a -10 offset...so he's seeing if he can create a wheel bearing hub unit with the offset i need. If he did that, can i get away with that?

I don't think -10 offset will work. That will require the hub flange to move inboard too far.

Even if coleman racing can make it so the hub can accomidate -10 offset? or are u saying thats probably not gonna happen?

(i had a car designer draw me a rendition of what i want her to look like in the end...got the rear yesterday, im super excited!)

Steven Snyder is running 18x9-45's with 275/35-18 tires in the rear under stock bodywork.

The '88's need 18" wheels to clear the knuckles due to the offset strut mount.

Well that's kinda what I'm asking. Yes I'm getting a wide body, I know I can accommodate the wheels sticking out past fender? But I wanted to know if 17x10 wheels would fit in the rear...or of they would rub the inside suspension if I had coil overs.

It depends on what offset you get.

Can u elaborate on that?? I asked about -10 offset...u said that probably wont work. I am still waiting to hear from coleman racing on what kinda custom offset they can make the hubs though...so i guess i have to wait and see from them first.

Having done that, you'll find that the wheels & tires I mention in the quote above are a very snug fit in the Fiero wheel houses. Moving them outboard 35mm, which is what a -10 wheel would do... is not going to happen unless you cut away a large portion of the stock fender. Since you're getting a custom widebody... sure you could do that, but then you'll be wasting 1.5" of available wheel and tire width at the inside edge of the wheel.

A 9" with tall 275 tire fits under stock bodywork. I'll be testing a 18x9.5 with 285/30 (shorter, wider) over the winter.

If you have an extra 1.5" available, then you could (should!) be looking at 18x10.5 to 18x11 and up to 315 rubber.

If you're stuck on the look of a particular make/model/diameter of wheel, go for it. An offset low as you mentioned *may* clear the '88 knuckle in 17", but 18" would be a safer bet. As mentioned, it will require cutting away the original fender.

17x8.5 with a 50 mm offset requires a bit of grinding on the upright and strut mounting ears to clear. That means a 17x10 requires something like a 25 or 30 mm offset to clear.
