Tank only no exchanger. Gonna try these.

How long before the race can you fill the tank with ice (or fake ice)?

Can you drive around calmly to the race site for a while, without melting too much?

If you don't know right now, I guess you'll find out soon enough.

Its mostly a street car. If at the track I'll have plenty of the ice pack thingies to swap out. For the street I can turn the pump off and let the water get cold in the expansion tank and turn it on when gonna make a pull.

Turn the intercooler pump on with the "Go-Baby-Go!" button on your steering wheel.
Also, can your ECM drive general purpose output based on manifold air temp? If so, that could operate a relay to turn on the intercooler pump when MAT crossed a threshold indicating you were into boost. You could also have a driver switch to turn the pump on continuously to pre-chill the intercooler core and/or if you were doing multiple dyno passes or in the staging lanes at a drag strip.

I think basing the output on % throttle, or boost PSI would probably work better. temperature sensors lag quite a bit, you could be closing the throttle by the time the sensor reads high enough to cause a trip.

Its all mounted and wired up.

I sprayed the tank and intercooler with a rubberized spray coating. Running cold water through the system will cause the parts to sweat. Dripping water on a track is a big no no. We shall see if this rubberized coating works.

I also installed a switch so I can turn the pump on when I want. Its in the trunk now but I will be moving it to the dash eventually.

I gotta clean up the trunk area, put the tools away and finalize tightening a few clamps and what not but its essentially complete. Just have to add water.

I did a test with my freeze paks. Water temp was approx 67 at the start. I dropped 6 frozen mini freeze paks in the water. In about 30 minutes water temp was about 52 degrees. After an hour it was around 42 degrees.

The tank can easily hold more than 6 paks. I have about 23 of the paks. Its way cheaper than using ice

I would recommend insulating the tank and the pipes to the intercooler, you can get foam pipe insulation stupid cheap at bLowes or home depot.

I used a rubberized coating on the tank and intercooler. It works pretty good. I should prob add another coat though.

The 93 tune is pretty dialed in. I just made the switch to e85 tonight and started tuning on that.

I have found only a couple pulls before they are thawed out while the pump is running.

So for the dyno it will work great.

Did you use the stock rods for this?

If so which part number ARP rod bolts are used?

LZ4 (3.5L) stock rod bolts are M9x1x52

Yes I used stock rods.

I bought the rod bolts through a company that I will not mention anymore. Scam company reboxing parts for these engines and sending them in plastic zip loc bags so you can't get a part number.

I paid 140 for 12 rod bolts.

If you are correct about the thread pitch amd length then the arp bolts you found are prob correct. Not sure how many come in the bmw package however.

Stock rod bolts have been proven to hold about 600 hp. A turbo lz9 third gen Camaro trapped 130 mph in the qtr on stock rod bolts. I imagine thats about 600 hp
