Stock ecu is already tuned for a turbo.
Not interested in 7730 and dis right now.
Standalone costs more money. Maybe one day
Stock computer and distributor already proven to make 600 hp no problems.

Do you still have the tuning hardware for your stock computer then?Shaun41178(2) wrote: ↑Tue Apr 28, 2020 6:31 pm Stock ecu is already tuned for a turbo.

You don't need a standalone... 2006 G6 computer would be expensive for a factory ECU, but should do everything you need, and any HPTuners shop can handle it.
Have you done the '165 ECU MAF swap? Going from a 3.5 to a 3.9 with different intakes & power curves is going to mess up your old tune.

Will beat me to it on the '165 swap, it's almost plug and play for the Fiero ECM and offers better control from what I understand. The Dark Side of Will wrote: ↑Tue Apr 28, 2020 8:58 pm Do you still have the tuning hardware for your stock computer then?

As far as tunes go, his 3.5 tune will be nothing like his 3.9 tune for a ton of reasons, the heads are crazy different between the two, so even if he uses the same cam, I suspect he'll pretty much be starting over.

Also, the control signals between the ignition and ECM are nearly identical across distributor HEI and DIS... not a big change to swap from distributor to DIS. GM calls DIS 'Distributor-less Ignition System" for a reason... it's a plug/play swap with a distributor on the block diagram.Shaun41178(2) wrote: ↑Tue Apr 28, 2020 6:31 pm Stock ecu is already tuned for a turbo.

I think j Upson went back and forth between the 165 and 730 ecm with his turbo 3900 swap.
Had problems with both from what I remember. Nevwr seemed to run right

Cool. I guess you're going to work on exhaust and other things that require the engine to be in the car for proper fitment?
I'd suggest a clean bedsheet to cover your exposed engine.

Rocker arms are on. Firewall exhaust manifold is on, coolant senders installed. I'll have pics of those later.
I wanted to install the crossover and check clearances for the coolant fittings. They are good. And will work great.
The slave cylinder is close to the crossover. I had to trim some heat shielding on the underside of the crossover. I will have to try and build a shield, and also prob have to wrap the crossover.

Yeah, heat is pretty deadly to slave cylinders. I had many problems with that (an exhaust pipe next to the slave) that went away when I added a rudimentary (I used a pie plate in my pre-welding days) heat shield.

I don't hate, I have a beloved distributor as well.
Did you extend yours higher for the 3900? It looks like it has a splice section.

Re: lz9 3900 V6 buildup
Thanks for showing the exhaust. I'm thinking of a stock 3900 into the Storm Trooper once I get The Mule running. I will be using an F23 with HTOB, though.
Don't you have an HTOB Getrag?
Also, now that you've JBWelded your AN fittings in place... maybe a 90 degree fitting would be better for packaging?
Were those holes too big for a 1" or 1.25" NPT fitting?
And yeah... distributor. If you're going with mechanical ignition, at least get a Top Fuel magneto.

Re: lz9 3900 V6 buildup
Nope. Still have the external slave. I traded you the htob getrag case for the non.
The fittings are a -12. I was gonna weld them but I was afraid the heat might warp the head. The -12 fit perfectly. There will be some 90 or 45 degree off them. I'll show details of all that when I get to it. A 90 on the head would prob be better for future build or someone else after seeing my pics especially on the trunk side head

Re: lz9 3900 V6 buildup
Oh yeah, I remembered something about the HTOB bellhousing, but didn't remember you'd sent me yours. F23 time?
Did you tap the holes in the head for 3/4 NPT or just JB weld the fittings in place?
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/fra-499112-bl
They could still stand to be finished with a ball end mill, but they're WAY better than Russell's. I don't know what material the O-Ring is made from, so if you order one like it, you should call the MFG to be sure it's compatible with coolant.
Then use one of these in your forward head: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/ear-982512erl
That would keep the crossover hose nice and tight to the head, but the single -12 connection may not be large enough for your forthcoming 600 horsepressures.

Re: lz9 3900 V6 buildup
I got something similar to this. I didnt bother tapping or threading anything.
Theae fittings have a lip that fit down into the coolant ports almost perfectly.
