windshield frame paint

I got about 90% done removing my old roof skin to install the hardtop, when I thought, "Thank goodness I haven't cracked the windshield" at that precise moment, I heard a nice little pop, and a 12" crack appeared...

since it would need to come out either way, I went ahead and cut the glue and removed the windshield, and noticed a couple of small spots of rust that I want to eliminate now before they become a leak, but that got me thinking, are there any special precautions, techniques, or special paints required to paint the frame? I'd rather not have problems with the windshield coming unseated or something.

I'd go with POR-15... not sure what the original process was, although it may have been early E-coating?

I used Dow Betaseal to glue a windshield, and being inexperienced at the job, I got a bunch of glue everywhere.

Luckily, I had toluene on hand, and I found that it was very effective at wiping off the uncured Betaseal from unwanted areas.

I'm guessing that xylene would work similarly.

I was surprised to find that my windshield wasn't held in with a harder glue, it was pretty soft, and not terribly hard to remove like I expected.

I think I'm just going to pay to have a new one put it, it's not something I want to mess up, and I know I would end up with glue all over the place if I did it!

at this point, I've narrowed my paint plan down to two options,

POR-15 as Will suggested.

or

Eastwood Extreme Chassis black.


I'm going to email both manufactures and see if they have a specific recommendation before I buy though.
