Jeremy Fielding, This one is pretty new to me, but he does a ton of work with electric motors and tools. he also builds some neat projects as well. Fairly heavily focused on low cost DIY, but still maintaining high quality stuff.

Project farm, This guy does all sorts of product testing, some of it is pretty extreme, like JB welding a cylinder head on and running the engine until it pops off! there's also some cool videos of him running flathead briggs and stratton engines with an acrylic head.

so, not automotive or metal fab, but recently I started watching Sampson Boat Co, and the Rebuild of "Tally Ho", a sailing yacht built in 1910. it gives an interesting perspective on construction techniques for old wooden boats. Not sure how much of it would ever be applicable to my life, but I find it enjoyable to watch. also, "rebuild" is the understatement of the century here, they're practically building a new boat, with a few extra steps...

The guy could have simply built a boat from scratch; I guess having the old boat was basically to have a 3D set of plans and for historical reasons.

In terms of applicability to your life, I guess you could keep certain things in mind when you are looking for your next place to live...

Some houses are located next to a navigable body of water.

Others are surrounded by farming fields, and have enough area for a runway.

I am sort of having second thoughts about the house I'm buying that's in the city, but it is what it is. Trailers exist to bring projects out to where they can be used, and wings can be bolted on... though development would be a lot easier if you could do tests in your own backyard.

Thinking about it, I don't think I have an intrinsic preference for wheeled vehicles, it's just that typical houses are accessed via roads, and you need a car anyway. The automotive hobby is the vehicle hobby with the lowest barriers to entry, besides bicycles.

I don't intend on building a boat or airplane anytime soon, but it is refreshing to see craftsmanship on this level. I think my favorite part is seeing the array of volunteers from all walks of life who have been inspired to come take part in his project. Honestly, had I known sooner, I would have tried to go check it out, he is very close to my current location.

Two different project builds I've been watching in spare time:

guy is building an LS4 powered Triumph, it's a pretty cool, and includes a complete chassis build using a mix of off the shelf and fabricated parts.

Both are interesting builds, and very outside of the box IMO.

Abom79 has become uninteresting to watch. He has now become a vehicle for product placement, so the videos have become him opening new tools sent to him by various companies.

the fab work on this one is quite impressive. I was a little apprehensive of "Mini" and "Celica" when I started watching, but this build is gold. I'm on episode 17 or so now, and can't wait to see the finished car. The chassis "jig" they built is incredible. the amount of planning that had to go into just that is insane!

I'm hesitant to post this as a channel recommendation, but David Vizard's channel can have a ton of valuable information, however, almost every video he posts has a ton of rambling, and it can be a bit annoying. he always has a point to prove, but proves it with stories and hearsay more often than testing data, personally, I prefer hard testing data to stories.
