Since he's building it somewhere with actual seasons, it probably needs a footer below the frost line to avoid frost heaves and settling.

Rising cost of materials has led to some unfortunate cutbacks.

I don’t think there’s a summer in recent memory where I’ve been so cognizant of the weather. We had a bad storm come through with 96mph winds. No damage at the new place, but we didn’t have power for 3-4 days or so.

Unfortunately, I still have the old place along with it’s stupid giant maple.

Somehow the trampoline survived!

Storms, schedules, and material availability be damned.

The trusses are built to give me a room upstairs of around 400sqft; most of which I can comfortably stand up in. I’m working out a hoist solution.

The guy building it gave me a window that he salvaged and had laying around.

looking great! later tonight I'll try and post progress on my interim shop, I think my real shop will be built using "Post Frame construction" similar to how a pole barn is built, which should minimize building costs, maximize floor space, and make the overall shop able to be built in a modular manner, minimizing the financial impact

Looking great, man!

You weren't planning windows to begin with?

No door on the uphill end?
Edit... I see a possible door frame on the left in the view from your house.

Your neighbor's garage looks pretty awesome too! Must be an alley of gear heads!

Thanks! I had a window planned, but this one is nicer than what I had in mind.

Yep, there's an entry door on the house side.

LOL, at first I thought you meant the old "Model A" garage next door. The one on the right side of the photo is just a bigger two-car, I think they have a beer brewing operation in there? There is some interesting car stuff in the neighborhood though - The guy 2 doors down has a C5vette-based death kart, some DSM types further down, someone with an old Volvo Amazon wagon a few blocks over, and there's a purple, lifted kei truck rolling around nearby.

That one was the one I was talking about; I was being a smartass, per protocol.

You have DSMs? Oh... it's *THAT* kind of neighborhood...

They still park in there! On the back side, it has an addition that looks like half-a-doghouse-cut-lengthwise for when cars got bigger in the 50s/60s.

When I first saw the stairstep pattern on the blocks, I thought you just weren't done placing them. Now I get it!

Good progress.

How long did the mortar cure before they backfilled? My cousin's house has water infiltration problems because the builder backfilled before the poured concrete wall was fully cured.

They let it cure for about a week, then rolled a bucket of waterproofing tar on the exterior, then backfilled just over a week after that. I think at least some of that timeline was due to scheduling availability.

Builder is done. Now it’s time for paint and interior amenities.

Right now it’s all kinda spread out between my old house, my folks’ place, and a storage unit. Far from ideal for sure. Those are actually the first pics I have of the Pontiacs together.
