Nice.. what does that look like underneath? Did you have to cut the front sheet metal?

No cutting of the front trunk wall, the hood scoop comes down riiight in front of it:

At some later stage I'd like to fully duct the radiator so that all the air goes up through the hood; that will require a larger opening in the hood and some trimming of the trunk metal. For now this should help a lot though.

Not quite off-the-shelf but not a one off. It's a Paul Angel hood vent, specifically his 'Angel Vent 2.0'

Thanks! That's an interesting site. I had seen the 1.0 Angel vent, or maybe the "Warber vent".

The vented headlight doors look... interesting.
The front fender vents would fit with my idea to duct the radiator volume THROUGH the frunk above the steel wheel houses and out the fenders, thus avoiding a "look at me!" hood vent.

Yeah, I have the front fender vent pieces as well, which I'm planning to modify into a tracklife style fender cutout to pull air out of the front wheelwells. That's a future project though.

I also got my rear quarter intakes from him, one of which feeds the engine air intake and one will eventually feed an intercooler down the road

Been working on the front suspension lately. WCF upper/lower control arms, springs, viking double adjustables. 13" 2 piece rotors with the porsche brembo brakes. Coleman racing spindle adapters for the front bearings.

Looking a lot more race car in here now.

I'm running the Rodney Dickman links also. They've held up really well.


What springs are you using up front? Do you know the rate?

Thanks folks, I'll look into Rodney's links.

The springs are from WCF. They were supposed to be 700 front, 500 rear but the rears that I received are 400lb and the fronts are unmarked so...not a clue, lol. The fronts are at least somewhat stiffer than the rears but I don't have the equipment to actually measure the rate.

Replacing the springs with known ones from a good brand will be on the list after the car is actually together. For now getting it rolling with the new suspension and getting the engine sorted out and tuned etc is more important.

Well, there was next to zero progress over the winter, I was busy doing this:

But, back at it now. Engine is done at the machine shop and will go in as soon as there is a free lift at the shop.

However, made some good progress on the rear suspension and brakes. Lookin' a little more race-car back there now with the tubular links, sphericals, fieroguru's roll center kit, new struts (Koni 8610s) and of course the big ol brakes. I still need to take the uprights away to clean up, paint, and bore out for the cavalier bearings, but that can wait until the rear subframe comes out of the car.

Also yes, the parking brake cables aren't attached yet. Waiting for new bits from the fiero store rather than fighting with crusty old ones. And I haven't been brave enough to attack the brake line connections yet to put the new braided ones on.

The Cavalier bearings add 2mm offset to the hub so you may need to face your uprights or make some changes to your brake brackets. The stock sliding calipers can accommodate the change but those fixed mount Porsche calipers probably won't.

Good call. I can pull 2mm off the brake brackets to recenter the caliper without much difficulty

Nice this is looking great, are you planning to re-baseline it after all the suspension and brake mods but pre-motor swap?

I was intending to! In fact I had it lined up to go to a track day last week to do shakedown of suspension and set a new baseline, but then the ol' iron duke started misfiring something fierce on the way back from getting it aligned. I could probably get it up and running again to do the baseline but at this point I have the engine built and ready to go in and a free lift, so I don't really feel like throwing parts at the stock boat anchor just to pull it out immediately afterwards.

Long time no update. But! Progress has been made. Spent a lot of time waiting for various things, and the engine mounts needed to be fabb'd up from scratch - the ones sent by the guy in the states were...not great.

I also haven't taken as many pictures as I ought to yet. Anyways, engine is in the car! Pic of an old mockup of the K20 in the Fiero cradle:

Coolant system is done with the Griffin radiator and some custom pipeage for the engine side
