I initially bought them from someone down in the states who is pioneering the K-swap fiero. He did a production run of K24 mounts, which are slightly different - he was going to do a production run of K20 mounts but they never got off the ground. He sent me his 'prototype' K20 mounts which were pretty rough. He's promised to get me 'production' versions of them but they've never materialized. I know it's not really his fault, small batch production is tough, but it was a little disappointing.

I have a local race shop handling all the fabrication for this project, they made up new mounts, modified the cradle, and did the new coolant hard lines, etc.

Few more progress pics.

Engine in the car! Lots of room for activities in the bay with the 4 cylinder.

Exhaust progress. Header is on. The bottom of the trunk is cut out for room for mufflers. I'm not a fan of obnoxiously loud race cars but also want good exhaust flow so the only solution is BIG free flowing mufflers. The one towards the rear of the car has an exit on either side so I can have quad tips still.

Very cool, Honda makes some great motors and transmissions. Are you planning to modify the shifting linkage on the trans to reverse everything?

To start with no, I'll be using the stock RSX shifter and cables, and just routing them to come at the transmission from the back. They look to be plenty long enough.

If the shift feel sucks too much that way I'll look at changing things, but if I can stay stock honda for as much of the parts as possible, it'll make it a lot easier to find quality aftermarket upgrades later.

It is the tight bends that do it, and I am having a hard time imagining how you will avoid some tight bends with the strut tower there. If you do end up modifying things (on the trans side of things), since there is no exhaust on the firewall side of the motor and looks like plenty of space with the intake, getting some pretty straight shots for the cables looks very doable.

Maybe the Honda cables are so nice that they can handle the tight bends, the stock Fiero shift cables definitely do not as they are far too stiff. But I have owned/driven several Hondas with cable shifters and they are always very buttery feeling. Best Honda shifters I have driven though were my brothers EK and my friend's turbo EK, but can't beat a linkage.

The shift (fore/aft) cable is quite stiff in bending because it has to be strong enough in compression to handle the synchro loads during a max effort shift.
The select (left/right) cable is much smaller and more flexible, since it only has to be able to push through the bias spring that keeps the transmission in the 3-4 gate.

There is a company called California Push & Pull that makes custom push/pull cables (general functions, not just shifters) for the hot rod market. Other Fiero swaps have use them for exact fit cables, obviating the need to modify linkages and brackets.

Looking more into it, it seems like what others have done successfully is flipped the stock honda shifter around so the cables come out the back - that lets the cables come at the transmission from the firewall side with the normal shift pattern

I'll test fit that up first and see what happens.

That looks like a good solution with minor fab. I have been considering using an oem shifter and cables from another car for my LZ9 F23, VW shifters are another good option as the shifter has a ball pivot, and I have been considering a Honda shifter and cables as well. I will need to modify the trans side of things obviously to make them work with the Honda or VW parts. Any chance you know what cables and shifter are being used in the pics you posted?

The ones pictured are from a 5 speed K series car, most likely an Accord or base model RSX.

Mine is a 6 speed out of an RSX Type S, and I'll be attempting to use the stock shifter and cables from that car. Will report back!

Elected to go with a Hybrid Racing K swap shifter instead of trying to make the stock RSX box work. It was going to be too hacky to get that plastic thing to mount up (too wide for the tunnel) and the Hybrid racing one was on a black friday deal. Still using stock cables and flipping the braket on the transmission side, that looks like it'll all line up.

Exhaust is done and looks great (in my completely unbiased opinion). Only remaining thing is I'll probably need some kind of heat shield on the bumper plastic but we'll see once the car is running.

Coolant lines are done. Engine side AC Lines are done (yes, race cars need AC!). ECU and wiring harness are on order and waiting for arrival. Measurements for the axles are off to driveshaftshop so waiting on the eta for those.

I can't take credit for the exhaust work, much as I'd love to - it looks professionally done because it was done by professionals :-D . I am a very bad welder and don't have the right equipment so any metal fab is being handled by a local shop up here in Vancouver BC

That's for the K20C1, the newer turbo engine vs my K20A2. But yeah. Lightweight flywheel and an FX400 6-puck clutch. I want this thing to be as revvy as possible.

As for progress, shifter is now fully installed. The hybrid racing shifter fits much much better than that stock plastic one would have

The wilwood 1" brake master is in place now, with new hard lines to replace the old crusty ones. Still need to bleed the system but I'll wait until I'm sure the calipers aren't coming back off for any reason

Beyond that, the swap axles are set to be done soon - driveshaftshop is making those.

I also managed to snag this off a local for much much less than retail - an APR GTC-300 Wing. So, another thing on the to-do list.

I'm melting my bumper with less exhaust heat and more clearance to the tips. Add the shields and don't melt your bumper!

Good to know - heat shields are definitely on the list before the first track shakedown then. There's a track day school on April 5th that I'll be instructing at so get free track sessions during the breaks - I'm really hoping to have the Fiero running to do a first shakedown that day. I think it'll be doable so long as the dyno isn't booked solid.

Also getting the interior sorted. Simple aluminum cover for the transmission tunnel, and a mounting bracket for the digital gauge cluster because I don't feel like making the stock gauges work.
