Random other junkers...

Well I've been gone a while, but figured I'd post some of the other crap I've been working on. I bought a $2000 blown up focus ST, a s2k, a Ttop 88 to restore, and still have my 2014 Model S that I've upgraded to a Ludacrous P100D. I still have the 84 3800T, and 86 3800SC.

This is the shop in my backyard. I've had the dyno since 2013. It's an analog DS450 but I've converted it to a YourDyno computer and brake controller. The new software runs on windows and uses Bluetooth ELM327 input and Canbus input to make interface to the car much easier. My PID control isn't as dialed in as oem software was when doing steady state tuning but it's good enough for home use.

That's awesome! I'd love to get to the point of having a dyno in the shop, even a homebrew setup, while getting accurate numbers is awesome, just being able to safely apply load to the vehicle and tune it off the street and not at the track or spending a ton of cash at someone else's dyno would be awesome. any idea how much money you have tied up in the setup?

Goin to a dyno somewhere else is always going to be cheaper, but there something to be said about convenience. Plus I had the dyno while I was still in college so we had plenty of fun times, and I even recouped a few bucks letting others play around. Even still, we can have wine & dyne nights where the guys hang out in the shop making noise and the ladies can drink by the pool. I think I can piece together my current setup for well under $20k. A lot of the dyno dynamics hardware you don't need, so its really just finding a decent roller bed.

I'm not sure if you guys are into this other stuff, but the shop is also powered by 13.2kW DIY off-grid solar using two 8K inverters in parallel (32kW surge for 5sec, enough to start up the lifts one at a time, or air compressor), with 28kWh of LiFePO4 battery storage. I'm a nerd.

I wasn't trying to imply it would be cheaper, it takes a ton of dyno runs to get to 20K, more just that it would be another benefit.

The off grid setup is rad! I'd like to get my shop to that point eventually, but I doubt it will happen, I have way too many other projects...
