Anyone see the new (well two week old) Ferarri Hub caps?
I've always wondered why they weren't in use earlier.

I would have thought they left them open to aid in brake cooling. I guess the aerodynamic improvement outweighs the cooling advantage.Series8217 wrote:I've wondered the same. RC racers have been using flat faced wheels forever for aerodynamic concerns. It took way too long for someone to figure out how to put a flat plastic face over some spoked rims..

RC race cars have inboard brakes. As for real cars, Ferrari might be running inboard brakes or the vents in the center of the "hub cap" are enough for cooling.product1620 wrote:I would have thought they left them open to aid in brake cooling. I guess the aerodynamic improvement outweighs the cooling advantage.Series8217 wrote:I've wondered the same. F1 car's brake ducts surround the entire rotor, so all hot air being pumped from the outside of the disc is take through a shroud and out the back, helping it flow smoothy. Not too much week ducting going on.
Flat wheel covers are a great idea if you are a land speed racer or have the brake cooling setup like F1 cars. Just ain't pratical for road racing types of cars.
