Dyno Nov. 10th.

Post by Jinxmutt »

Paid up to have my car dynoed 11/10. I'm going as part of a group dyno day, I just have to get a new trans installed before then. I know two weeks normally isn't a big deal for a trans swap, especially for me, but I'm down at school here and don't really have a place to do it. I asked around to see if anyone has a garage or such that I can get this done but no one is really definitive yet.

I'd like to see 240hp at the wheels. I'm running a 3.4" pulley, PEMs, 3" exhaust, OBD1, isuzu, TB spacer, and thats about all I can think of. I have a few other mods that I'll be doing over winter I hope, but this should give me a good idea of where I'm starting from. Engine is rated at 240 so I'm pretty much just looking to get back the losses of the drivetrain, but we'll see. The one thing I dont' like about my setup is that my IAT isn't in the airflow, its just in the custom intake. I'm not sure if I wont be getting the full timing advance it 'should' be seeing due to the warmer air, but I might be able to make an adjustment between runs to see.

Well heres to getting a tranny in. 10days and counting...

I'm going getrag when I get back home and can do the conversion. So yes, for now its just a spare isuzu. I don't have one in my possession, but I have 2 lined up and discussed shipping, etc. Hopefully I can get one here in time.

Not really worried about that part. I do have weak coils, spark plug issues, and some boost problems I could work out though... :la:

mstangsbeware did not get screwed. His numbers sounded right to me.

Teh problem with him was that everyone was guessing well over 300. I knew he would be lucky to hit 300 whp with his list of mods. Hell they dyno 200 whp stock. So his hp numbers in my opinion were dead on.

He just wanted to make an excuse and put blame somewhere else for his less then overall steller numbers(even though they are decent for a Fiero)

In the mstangsbware thread, they mentioned some wire clipped to the Ignition Module harness. Anyone know which wire this is referring to? I've never had a coilpack car dynoed, last time I was at one they just stuck this black "timing light looking" connector over the spark plug wire.

I have the trans, it sitting in a tupperware tub right next to me. The problem is that I don't have a place to do the swap here at school. I don't have classes friday so i'm still hoping to find someplace last minute and maybe shoot for friday morning. The dyno isn't until 4pm and the place is rented til 11pm so I'm certain I would still make it. As of now though, its not lookin good.

Well its 2:30am and I just finished the trans. I feel like crap, yet I feel great!

The trans is making some noise at idle, sort of like a tapping noise, not really sure what that is. It shifts thru the gears and seems to drive well otherwise. Looks like I'll be putting down some numbers tomorrow afterall..

Good luck. I hope the tapping noise isn't a loose bolt hitting something. :thumbleft:

Cool congrats on that. Just put it in third gear on the dyno and hope for the best. It should hold.

Ticking sound is probibly the throwout bearing. Mine ticks now and then as well.

Its prob. not the throwout bearing, I reused the old one that had about 9k miles on it. It didn't make noise before so I didn't think it would now but I guess anything IS possible...

So I just got back and I'm pretty happy with my numbers.. Best of the night were:

249.35 HP
287.08 TQ

I'll have the dyno graphs up tomorrow or something when I can get them scanned. I only did two out of the three pulls because the first two were almost identical. There is ALOT more to be had with just my basic mods because my AFR is dropping to 10:1 at 4500 RPM. I need to get this thing tuned make some kickass top end.

I've got a decent mod list planned so I was happy to get a baseline with this 3.4" pulley.

That is a pretty smooth and consistant HP curve.

Good numbers.

Judging by the torque curve it looks like a 4.9. If it is, those are pretty awesome numbers.

3.4" pulley doesn't do anything for a 4.9.
