Forum suggestions?
Being a PHP coder, I can't go without looking at something and saying "I could so improve that". phpBB is far from any exception. I was hoping to start a thread about suggestions people think could be made here, on a software/forum level, not people politics (I know a number of people wish I would die... but that's not the point here ).
I don't know who the admin here is - I wasn't around for the beginning of the site and all I see are "moderators". I asume Shaun has some say here? That's who was on the emails... but I won't make any stupid assumptions and send PMs to the wrong person, so I'm making this topic. Besides, I'm sure more people than just me have an opinion to share
OK, I'll start with a small mod I would love to see on the index page. Most forums show which topic was posted in, in the area with the "last poster". It would be much more beneficial to show what topic was posted in, rather than who posted it. I made a mod on a forum I used to run, which enabled this with a small MySQL query modification (adding a column to the "join" clause and adding it to the display module). It wouldn't be too hard to add...
Discuss! :thumbleft:

No, I think you're scared of the big, evil Falcon coming to show off some neat additions and changes. Cuz god knows we all love having the word "piece" word-filtered to "peice" just because. Or having a hundred animated smiles off to the side of the post box, but not having a or . Or not knowing what on earth the latest post is, since the "new posts" indicator is always "lit up" unless you read all the posts... or... geez.
All those things could easily be improved and I'm sure NOBODY would have a problem with it either. The only reason people would have to say "buzz off" is because it'd be me doing it... or so you assume.

Fair enough... but we can at least present suggestions for things done on the stock forum - such as the word filters and smileys... *shrug*
Honestly, that topic title mod isn't that hard to do... an upgrade would just remove it - the mod wouldn't make it difficult to upgrade in the slightest. It'd still be exactly the same...
I didn't mean for this thread to be something about "that one mod I suggested"... I wanted to get some input from others as well. Come on, doesn't anyone else have any input?

Just my thought, but guys like this should be banned on sight.
phpBB/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=1550
You know, before they even get admin-approved.

I don't know if it's nice but it consumes large amounts of my time.
I'm also really not bothered by the spam.
Also I know phpBB 3.0 is around the corner and know I'm moving to that so investing time moding 2.0 isn't really high up on my list of things to do.

The problem with the spam isn't the inconvenience to move the spam to the proper area, but the fact is, if Guest can see it, Googlebot can see it, and the only reason these spam bots exist is to increase PageRank by linking to their site on other sites (what, you think people actually click that shit?). If their PageRank is increased, RFT's is decreased by having linked to the lower sites. It's SEO (erm, Search Engine Optimization) 101.
In other words, you don't have to click the links for them to get business... you're still doing them a favor by keeping the topics around with the links in them. If you could set the Aaron's Bath House forum to be member-only, that would really, really help RFT's web position... :thumbleft:
