F-body style crossflow muffler that fits Fiero

Post by Sinister Fiero »

Here is a link to a single in, dual out crossflow type muffler that will fit the Fiero without modification.

Holley Flowtech Terminator 50162:

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetai ... toview=sku

Even though it has a 2.5" inlet; the inlet is necked down from 3" where it goes into the muffler body so you can easily open it up for a 3" pipe if that's what you need. These sound decent enough but the noise level is pretty high. The F-body Flowmaster muffler that has a similar design to this sounds better (actually makes V6's sound like V8's at idle) but as you know the flowmaster unit has to be notched to fit. The terminator muffler needs no such modification.

5x100 wheel spacers. The 10mm and up ones are hubcentric. The 5mm spacers are just flat spacers and may make hubcentricity impossible depending on how your wheel is machined and how thick your rotor is.
Look at Chrysler Neon / PT Cruiser front application. Same bolt pattern, bolt size, and centerbore as the Fiero. Note that the studs (if they come with longer studs as I think some of the thicker ones do) may not work though since the Fiero probably uses different studs.

Cheaper alternative for 88 alternator upgrade--

The 88 alternator was also used in the 1990 chevy P30 with the 4.3 V6
the p30 listing has 2 options the same alt as the 88, listed as 11 oclock wiring harness, and also a 7 oclock wiring harness which is about $30 to $40
cheaper. The wiring harness with the new pigtail had plenty of room to reach the plug on the P30 alt. The battery cable terminal does get moved closer to the exhaust manifold, but I've been keeping an eye on it and have seen no ill effects.

Materials:

Loctite #'s for applications:

Loctite 518: Anaerobic sealant for Northstar crank case halves and similar.
Loctite XXX: Blue Loctite
Loctite YYY: Red Loctite
Loctite ZZZ: Maximum Strength Retaining Compound
Loctite QQQ: Wicking

I'll be adding to this list as I think about the various kinds of Loctite that I use.

High temperature convoluted tubing for wiring harnesses.
This stuff will not burn like the cheap auto parts store crap. I think it's available in different colors but I only have the part number for black.

Taylor Cable
www.taylorvertex.com

Taylor Cable 38000
Black Convoluted Tubing Assortment
10ft 1/4" id
10ft 3/8" id
10ft 1/2" id
10ft 3/4" id

I got it through my hose and fittings place as they were a Taylor dealer. You want part number 38000. It's enough to do a whole wiring harness and have a lot left over.

Here's a link to a place I found looking for an intercooler for the upcoming turbo-upgrade.

These are pretty decently priced for custom parts:

All kinds of crazy antique car hardware and universal automotive supplies.

Yes, most of it's (designed) for british cars, and they're in england, but I think part #685 near the bottom might be worth the international shipping.

Will, that header supplier looks really expensive, and there won't be much if any quality advantage on steel bends. Being that I've built a few sets now, figure I'd share my sources.

Header tubing: Stahl Headers. The cheapest I've found yet, especially when you buy in bulk. They are also very easy to order from, just a phone call and they will ship your bends out the next day. They also have really cheap, really well formed header collectors.
http://www.stahlheaders.com/Frame%20Tubing.htm

Exhaust tubing: Schoenfeld Headers. The cheapest large diameter pipes tubing I've found yet, however I have not ordered from them before.
http://www.schoenfeldheaders.com/U&JBends.htm

Header/Exhaust tubing: Columbia River Mandrel Bending. I haven't used these either, someone pointed me their way, and it looks like they might be cheaper than Stahl on some of the tubing.
http://store.racing-solutions.org/index.html

Intercooler Pumps: ZZ Performance. I haven't used them, however they seem to know their shit about the IC pumps, and have a lot of people using them, so if they recommend one, I'd be inclined to take their advice.
http://www.zzperformance.com/grand_prix ... &catid=139

Intercooler Pump: Auto Performance Engineering. I am using this pump on my car, it comes highly recommended by the Sy/Ty and SVT Cobra croud. I believe this is the same company that has(d) the lowest price on GM Walbro fuel pumps.
http://apeusa.com/?jabsco

Aluminum Tubing: Global Technology and Engineering. Will pointed me their way, however I haven't used them yet. Apparently good prices on built-to-order aluminum mandrel bends. However buying and cutting eBay intakes is easier and cheaper.

Ceramic Coating: FX Coatings. You send your items to him, he coats them and ships them back. Really cheap and great quality, he is the guy to go to in the LSX crowd.

Slow windows? Auto Trix makes a kit to wire your windows directly to the battery. They say longer window life, and faster windows. I'm not sure how this relates to the Fiero, however it does wonders for the F-body:

Updates on a couple of things.

Thought I'd put this here; they have all kinds of make your own frame, suspension and/or roll cage parts/tools, bolt on stuff for more common "race" cars, and performance/race mechanical parts too. Lefthander

Series8217 posted earlier on this page about Taylor #38000 convoluted tubing assortment.
Revise that to 3800X, where X is the color code
0 = black
1 = purple
2 = red
4 = yellow
6 = blue
8 = teal

They also have #39000, which is "chromed" plastic.

Weatherpack, EFI sensor connectors, terminals, pigtails, firewall passthroughs, etc.. They also have good automotive wire in tons of colors. EXTREMELY good prices.

More GM connectors and terminals; good prices on terminals:

Wow, if you go to 'gallery' on the bottom of that efi connection home page, they sell custom engine wiring harnesses for both the 7730 and 7727 ECM's.
