Real tech discussion on design, fabrication, testing, development of custom or adapted parts for Pontiac Fieros. Not questions about the power a CAI will give.

That's one odd duck...never heard of it! Any idea what it was created for? Only $3800 from gmpartsdirect.com what a steal! Copied for future reference...what a weird engine!

283 Main, 350 Bore Size Short-Deck Bowtie Race Block
• CNC Cast iron competition block designed for drag racing, road racing or restricted oval track racing!
• 4-bolt SAE 8620 steel mains, 20 splayed caps on center 3 mains
• 8.325" deck (as of 10/03) (standard deck block are 9.025"), can be machined to 8.200" deck height
• Camshaft is raised 0.433" to 4.955"
• Cam bearing bores machined for 2.250" O.D. x 1.875 roller bearings
• 3.980" rough bore
• 4.190" max bore (minimum of .250" cylinder bore wall thickness) (siamese bores)
• Integral oil restrictors
• Must use Big Block water pump, must raise water pump with adapters for balancers larger than 6"
• Olds Aurora V-8 bell housing bolt pattern (12.25" max flywheel diameter)
• Lifter holes and cylinder head bolt holes are not drilled
Every few months someone on Pfiffle "discovers" that block. This is the first view I've seen of it clearly showing the bellhousing bolt pattern.
Not sure why it's made that way, other than the possibility of the regular Chevy pattern being too big for the reduced deck height. With the combo of raised cam with short deck height and roller cam bearings, it's clearly intended to rev sky high.
bubbajoexxx:all of the good 51309 bearings are bolt together units that use 2 single tappered bearings as any wheel stub would use whitch make for a reliable unit
bubbajoexxx:the bearing im using are the bearings that come with the hubs to start with as well as the seals
they are koyo usa num.LM67048 and race is LM67010 and the stub is made to use this bearing with a pre load of 20 inch pounds on the nut
I used it to make new lines for my 3.4 DOHC Fiero. The only problem I've had with it is that it's a bit bulky, so it's sometimes hard to get around lines that run close together.
From these images you can see that AK1053 and AK1195 have a larger shock body diameter. This might not fit through the lower control arm on the 88 Fiero.
I haven't ordered from cone, but I have from CRM, their stuff was nice, shipping was reasonable, and so was turn around time.

I haven't used Cone, but I have ordered from Columbia River for both The Mule's exhaust AND coolant connections. They have great prices and a wide selection/inventory. They're MUCH cheaper than Burns or the usual suspects.
they both buy stuff from each other, but don't offer all of each other's products. Cone is mainly collectors, and they have quite the selection too.
