Is the 3800SC SII a interfering motor?

Post by greengoblin0129 »

Is the 3800SC SII a interfering motor? Reason why i'm asking is because i'm planning on buying a highly modded 3800SC SII engine this weekend and the time chain snapped on it.

3.4TDC isn't... But only just. You'll bend a valve if you snap the belt at high RPM.

The timing process is basically the same for all years, and you wouldn't actually be able time these motors unless you could rotate the motor with the cams disconnected. :salute:

i beleive it CAN be, i dont think it is if the motor has no modified cam, or rockers. its close tho, i have a set of used forged pistons with a knick from what looks to be a valve so , be cautious.

That's correct. Break a chain, good bye valves.

Valves and piston share the same area in the combustion chamber.

Basically, If you break a timing chain or timing belt, the valves hit the pistons, and bend stuff.
