Went back to the dyno...

Post by Jinxmutt »

So I got my new dyno numbers. My current setup includes 3800sc, 5 speed, OBD1, XP Cam, springs/locks/retainers, Rollmaster double roller, 3.2" Pulley, 3" exhaust, and self ported manifolds.

I'm currently up to 18* of timing at approx 10lbs of boost with the 3.2. I got my afrs in the 12s until 4500RPMS and they dip into the 10s just after that like my old dyno did.

The thing about this dyno was that all the numbers were reading high. It was a group dyno with my school car club and a bunch of us were at both this and the previous dyno. The people that dynoed with zero mods from the last time were all consistantly seeing 10% gain in HP from the previous place. This kind of pisses me off because I was hoping to see how the mods really affected things. I would go back to the old dyno, but the school pays for our dyno days so we can't complain about free.

They Dyno is a SuperFlow AutoDyn 880 AWD dyno. The reason we came here instead of the last place was because its AWD and none of the Subaru/mitsu/volvo guys got to dyno last time. The next dyno will be back the same place we did the first. The shop we were at today was really beautiful. Its called 3SX, they deal mostly with 3000gt/steaths.

In anycase, I would expect to pull about 10% off these graphs to get closer than actual.

Here is my OLD dyno:

Wow that is a nice dyno chart. Doesn't matter that it reads 10% high, you drfinitly have a beautiful power curve.

I would have expected the 3800 to fall off more on the top end. Very nice! :thumbleft:

Does not sound like 6krpm, sounds like 4k. Weird. Maybe I'm just used to the sound of my gtr reving to 8k...

What'd the S60R and the Eclipse put down?

S60R has exhaust, intake, chip and put down 310.

The eclipse tune wasn't right and it was pulling timing. The #s were 147hp, and a flat 147tq curve.

301 AWHP Volvo... what's the world coming to?

Nice numbers. Even 10% down is still good. Are you in the 11's yet?

holy hell. Damn good numbers. Car must be a freaking beast!. That has to roll out. 350 whp thats like 115 trap speeds. Even if it is reading high, even 300 whp is good. I do think though that you could be seeing around 350 with what you have done. Cams add a ton in that motor. Also the fact that you are going the extra mile and tuning it really helps too. Most people just slap shit on and think its good enough. Which is probably why you are making more power then others with similar mods who dont' tune, and who dont' dyno.

Good numbers man. Looks like you just barely beat out Jstrickers 4.9 tq numbers too :thumbleft:

How can you say he is making more power than people with similar mods who dont dyno, your estimating at their power levels. Unless your going by 1/4 mile times. which would bring about so many variables it is imposible to compare.

Because he is spending the time tooning. How many people on Fagland just slap parts on and don't tune it let alone hit a dyno. They dont' know their timing, nor do they know their a/f ratios. Jinx is doing this, which is probably giving him more power and just an overall better driving car.

I remember a few years ago when a 3800 SC guy came down to dyno. It was the Aldino car. He had more mods then Jinx, and only put down around 300 whp. I actually think it was 301 whp. I think he had headers which I don't think Jinx has, plus he was also intercooled if I remember right plus running a 2.8 pulley or a 3.0 pulley which is smaller then jinx

He trapped around 115 in the qtr mile as his fastest or maybe it was 116. He did hit a 11.5 though but even running from low 12's to mid 11's his traps never changed meaning he wasn't gaining any more power, just launching better.

you missed the point, if they didnt dyno you cant say they are making less power. Is an educated guess and most likely correct, but you cant say it, because you cant prove they make less.

Props for tuning the car properly.

It's not like it's a light educated guess, it's practically guarunteed that most people who modify their engine without tuning it are NOT going to be running at their full potential.

Before some form of tuning my N* would have been making 40 or so hp. Tuning is everything.

Very nice work. That's one of the best dyno charts I've seen on a Fiero forum. Way to do it right.
