Maybe you Skyline bubbas will know how to get a hold of an RB26DETT, transmission, Xfer case & front diff with all the necessary ancillaries for a swap... It'll be a couple of years before I'm ready to use it, but since it isn't to my knowledge being built anymore, I ought to start looking now...

That would really be a waste of an RB26...
I *do* have a good idea... just won't be ready for it for a while.

Of all places, e-bay.

Plenty of people wrecking their skylines when they bring them over, there is usually a few complete drivetrains on e-bay. Just keep checking back.

If you were in a real hurry, you could look into getting an importer to get one for you. These are the guys I bought my car from
http://www.4kruzn.com/

Also check here, lots of sponsors that can get you pretty much whatever you want.

When you search e-bay its ususally best to search for RB26DETT :thumbleft:

Thanks. I knew they showed up on eBay, but I didn't know that was a preferred place to get them. I was hoping there were importers buried in the niche market that could get such things, but I guess they're the ones who are USING eBay, aren't they? That's the free market at work!

What are the years for R32/R33/R34?
What are the engine/driveline differences? Didn't only the R34's get variable cam phasing?

I know the R32/3's got 5 speeds while the R34's got the same Getrag 6 speed as the MkIV Supras. I'm curious about differences in the active center diff by year. What electronics am I going to need to transplant in order to have the active AWD work and how tunable are they?

The R34 only got different cams to get a little more low end torque. They are a heavier car. The R34 also has a pull type clutch instead of a push type. Only matters when you go to buy a clutch. The early R32 engines had problems with the crank to oil pump colar. Its only a matter of time before these engines fail. There is an extended crank to oil pump fitting you can buy to modify the crank so it will not fail, but its probibly easier to just buy an R33 or R34 crank.

The R33 and R34 both got active rear LSDs, other than that the AWD system is basically the same. The later generations also got a bit faster computer... Not a huge difference. As for transplanting electronics, you are looking at getting the G sensors from the center counsol, and every wheel has a speed sensor. Not sure how you are going to transplant all that into another car... It might be cheaper to import a skyline from Japan as a parts car for the motor and all the parts you are looking to get. I'm sure you can get an R32 in parts car condition for $8-$10k at your door. You could even ask the Canadian importers, they could get one here for you and you would then only need to take it back to the states.

I'm not terribly concerned about the clutch. I'll figure out a way to adapt a Tilton & associated hardware... they may already have a kit also. I wonder if the MkIV Supras use a pull clutch...

Does the same computer (what is it called?) that controls the center diff control the active rear in the 33/4's?

AIUI, the center diff is a variable stack height viscous coupling. When the comp wants to transmit more torque to the front wheels, it squeezes the plates together and decreases the gap, increasing the effectiveness of the viscous fluid and vice versa when it wants to reduce front wheel torque.
Does the car actually have a center diff (variable clutch conrols front/rear locking) or is the connection to the rear wheels solid? Does the active rear work the same way?

I hadn't thought a parts car would be that cheap... I could easily spend that much on just a powertrain judging by some of the things I've seen. Hmm...

Too bad the Quaife 6 speed AWD box is over 25G's by the time you option it...

I don't know a lot about the finer details of the drivetrain. Best bet is to start looking around the forum I linked you to.

The UK GTR forum also has a bunch of good information.

Heck, sign up and start asking questions :thumbleft:

All engines have distributors!!!!

I had someone ask me for a distributor cap for a GM DIS engine (I cant remember which one), he was confused as to how it ran without a distributor.

Not that long ago I inspected a trailer that was filled with used JDM engines, B16's, H22's, SR20-DET's, 13b Turbo/Twin-turbo's, a 20b, RB26DETT's, a couple Supra motors. It was JDM heaven. And I wish I could tell you what they were invoiced for. It made me want to cry :( Can you say "rediculous profit margin"?
