Mocked my engine up...
I couldn't help myself from putting the VC on too:
I wasn't too surprised about this:
I have a cheap Moroso SBC crank trigger wheel on the way that I'm going to play with.
Indy DOHC Turbo SD4.....someday.

That much more reason to go with DIS or CPC...Indy wrote:I wasn't too surprised about this:

LMAO. Thanks. They're barely connected though, it's just mocked up. Once I got the block honed though...Fastback86 wrote:Ho-leee shit. Never thought I'd see the day all those parts were actually connected to each other. Nice work, Nate.

3) your not really gonna run a dizzy are you?
2)No
3)No
I want to run a dry sump too, so that way nothing besides the valvetrain will be driven off the cam. Figure it will take some load off the front thrust bearing, might make the vlavetrain last longer.

Pretty much everything needs a torque plate.
Dart (?) claims that their new LS1 block doesn't need a torque plate because the head bolt threads are so deep that they're below the normal range of piston travel. I'm not sure I buy that, because there's still going to be compressive loading on the cylinder walls.
Anyway, he'd better use a torque plate.
With the calibre of build he seems to be going for, he ought to have a HOT torque plate hone done...

It needs to have the holes enlarged to fit the 1/2" fasteners on the deck. Yes, I bought my own torque plate. *Baller*
Anyway, that block is heavier than shit. I very, very nearly dropped a nut lifting the bare casting onto the table. Maybe I'll get a bathroom-scale weight today, that would be interesting to compare to a stock Iron Duke block I have sitting in my dust-hole garage.
I need to talk to CP about what needs to happen on the hone. Using their new "Hell Fire" rings. They are finally in the catalog now.

I have done an engine swap on a wood chipper before. It was the easiest engine swap I ever did. The only part I had to change was a spacer between two pieces of the frame to accomodate the new engine's larger crank case.p8ntman442 wrote:yeah but it was a 1/4 hp motor before he started.whipped wrote:^^^ Used a torque plate on his 4hp lawn mower
Increased hp 60% going from 5HP to 8HP. Chipping goes MUCH faster since the new engine never bogs down.

I'm picturing a big pile of sawdust that used to be an oak 4x4. :thumbleft:The Dark Side of Will wrote:I have done an engine swap on a wood chipper before. It was the easiest engine swap I ever did. BZZZZZZITT!!
BRDS
This is starting to get technical...Maybe it should be moved to Tech?
Anyway, I weighed a stock '85 Duke block, and I also weighed my SD block. I used a bathroom scale that was about 3 lbs low at 185lbs, what I weigh, so accurate enough.
The stock Duke block weighed:
89lbs
Any guesses on what the SD block weighed?
