Reusing pistons?

Think this pistons here could be reused? Cylinder #3 in case you were wondering. This is what a bad tank of race gas, and detonation does

Raced the Evo8, the 350 whp escort, and the modified Ls1 SS camaro all with this dead cylinder and still beat them all.

I still have yet to pull the pistons out completly, but I am thinking I am going to see 1-2 cylidners with broken/shattered rings. So as of current its a 5 cylinder It could however be the fastest 60 degree 4 cylinder or 3 cylinder Fiero. I will have the rest of it torn down in a day or two.

I think its wild that pieces that big did not get caught in the valves or the turbo on the way out.

If you can find the bits of broken pieces, you could go all MTA on it and JB-weld em back together

edit to say that it was actually the number 4 cylinder not the number three.

No need for new pistons. Putting a new motor in.

Fuck that, just JB Weld dimes to the pistons to fill the holes. :thumbleft:

Finished tearing down the rest of the shortblock. IT is now official. Worlds quickets 4 cylinder 60 degree motor!! Hahaha

Awesome. Completely destroyed piston #4 and the top compression ring on number 5 was broken into 3 pieces

So would that make it a 4.5 cylinder or a even 4 cylinder?

Either way, makes me laugh I still beat those cars down 2 cylinders. Thats what 30% of my power wasted? Roughly anyways.

Just waiting on the new clutch, then it all goes back togethor. and not too soon, cooler weather has arrived.

acording to MTA, you can now add the volume of your crank case to your displacement numbers. Your the slowest 17 liter motor out there.

I am sure noone really cares, but the new motor is in.

3.4L.
Hyper pistons
Moly rings
Crane 272 camshaft
HV oilpump.
pocket ported heads.
gasket matched intakes
stock upper with stock 52 mm tb.

Hope to hit the dyno in a month or so.

Just doing some quick driving around, the motor idles at about 3-4 inch of vacuum less then my old motor with a fairly stock cam. Its around 17 inch at around 900 rpm idle. It has a slight lope, but nothing too crazy. Very streetable.

Boost comes on much faster now that I have 6 working cylinders instead of 4, and it sounds much meaner too which is probably a little of the cam overlap. Also I can feel the cam come on almost like a vtec around 2500 rpm before I really start to see a lot of boost so its not the boost I am feeling.

Its been in the 60's at night here with very low humidity. Hopefully the dry air will stay for a while.

I am breaking in the new clutch so I wont' be doing any hard driving for a while. Also don't have the wideband hooked up as I am doing some new exhaust work/routing.

Looking to tune on 14 lbs of boost, plus a 75 shot of nitrous. Looking for 350-400 whp. Hopefully will have a new intake or two to dyno as well by then. Someone listening? :thumbleft:

hehehe nah someone is working on one for me, and Pyrthian might let me borrow his gutted upper to dyno to see the differences.

Not a roller block. I have a 3500 roller block here waiting to go in when this blows up.

were you juicing when this happened?

yea, but it wasn't from the nitrous and it wasn't because the tuning in the chip was at fault. I got a bad tank of gas, which screwed up my o2 sensor. Car ran bad at part throttle as well as WOT. Sub 10:1 just cruising around. Just stupid rich as all get out. Remember me pming you about the long term fuel trims from a potential bad o2 sensor and its effect on WOT operation?

I got all the bad gas out eventually, swapped the 02 sensors, and all was well again.

That piston fried about 5 months ago, but I still drove it all the time like that still boosting it, and spraying it to hell and back. Turning the boost controller up to 11 psi and giving a larger shot just to see if I could finally blow it. I couldn't It would just keep taking more and more.

So that hole def wasn't that big when it initially went as my blowby out the valve covers weren't that bad. AFter 5 months of spraying it and boosting it every weekend racing it, I decided to pull the motor since I had a fresh one ready to go back in it. Just put that in 2 weeks ago.

I beat the SS, the EVO8, the 350 whp escort all with 2 blown cylinders and one with a hole in the piston with no compression at all. So a 4 cylinder turbo Fiero I guess you could say was mopping up all these cars that are in the 12's in the qtr mile. A 350 whp escort is a mid teens car trap wise in the qtr with tires easily. And I put it on him by about 1.5-2 cars on 4 cylinders no less.

New motor is in and tuning it now. Still haven't had one sbc fiero want to step up here in Central florida to race even after all their shit talking. Why? Because they know what would happen.

Still waiting for a turnkey V8Archie swap to hit the track and break into the 12's. Still haven't seen it yet. But of course V8Archie is the master carb tuner. His 230 whp 377 cubic inch bucket pouring out black smoke in Daytona is proof of that. Not to mention Drcpus "tuned" efi setup that V8Archie finished just prior to the daytona show that layed down 238 whp and cracked off high 13's at a measly 102 mph at the track!! HAHAAH Yea master tooner right there.
