Post by donk_316 »

ILL EDIT THIS AS MORE INFO IS CORRELATED SO EVERYTHING IS CLEAR AND IN ONE PLACE. WHICH BRACKET IS WHICH AND ARE THE RINGS RIGHT FOR FRONT AND BACK

FRONT
cut off rotors from spindle hub. Knock out studs for the 1995 GAGT ones
drill front spindle caliper mount bolt holes to 7/16
85-87 Corvette calipers (and brackets?)
88 Corvette rotors (PN55011)
Front ring http://Fagland.hostkansas.com/pffimages/Scan10002x.jpg
Front Bracket (??)

REAR
84-87 Corvette calipers
88-96 Corvette rear calipers for retention of emergency brake
88 Corvette rotors (PN55012)
rear bracket (??) http://Fagland.hostkansas.com/pffimages/Scan10001.JPG
rear ring http://Fagland.hostkansas.com/pffimages/99920550m.jpg

Im assuming all the rotors need to be redrilled for the fiero bolt pattern
Also i know for a fact a 82 Corvette MC works too. Im using one already.

85 to 87 calipers for front
72 to 80 vette master cylinder
fiero spindles (grind off rotors)
85 corvette rotors

part numbers for the rotors
Front 55011
rear 55012
88 corvette
calipers 84 to 87 C4 corvettte
Girlling calipers Girlling is an english company that has made disk brakes longer than any other company and because the vette brakes are made in austrailia thats what Gm used on the 84 to 96 vettes till they changed over to PBR
you need the front studs from a 1995 grand am gt thet are the right length

To summarize and ask questions:

'85 rotors or '88 rotors? Are they the same? I thought there were two different rotors used with different brake packages.
What are the dimensions of these rotors?

85-87 Vette front calipers

Mounting brackets are the hardest to come by of course... I remember that he posted a diagram of what the bracket ought to look like, but I didn't save it.

Which rotors for the rear?

'88-96 Vette rear calipers
Rear bracket

Hard mods:
modify Fiero spindle by parting off rotor
concentricity ring for hub pilot
redrill Vette rotors with 5x100 pattern

Stop to consider:
Redrilled rotors will be more difficult to source for replacement than unmolested rotors
With the added thickness of the rotor on the hub flange, the wheel pilot journal may not protrude far enough to actually locate the wheel properly...

If someone could ask that dude on Old Europe what the part number for those rotors are that would be great. I have found 3 different apps for a 88-96 corvette.

The normal ones are vented fronts and solid rears but the pic he shows is of 4 vented rotors.

Don't forget you have to drill/tap the rear spindle, otherwise, GOOD LUCK finding the 11MM bolts locally.

You also have to drill the threads from the front spindle.

Chances are that the rear concentric ring will be too thin. Not only was it thin on my cheap cross drilled/slotted ebay rotors, I brought to advance for the hell of it, and it was too thin for the USA rotors too... I brought the rotor to the Machine shop and the old ring. I told them to make it exactly the same but a few thousanths thinner than the thickness of the rotor. 2 hours later they called back and I had 'perfect' rings...
