Wheel Offsets with 17 inch rims

I have posted this a few times over on Old Europe but I can't get a straight answer. I get people saying "I have 18x8 with 42mm and 225/40 and they don't rub." Well that's just great but I'm not running 18x8 with 225s. Grrr...

So, I bought 17"x7" rims with a 42mm offset. They were supposed to be 40mm but the damn seller dissapeared so I couldn't send them back. Stupid fricken eBay. Anyway, 17x7 42mm offset. I am going to run 235/45/17 in the rear and I need to know if the offset will give me any rubbing problems with tires that wide. I bought 2 spacers just incase, they're 3/16" (or ~4.76mm) but I don't want to use spacers if I don't have to because I will probably need longer studs.

Personally I think you will be fine.

There are ways around it of course if there is slight rubbing.

Going to coilovers is one option.

The other is the spacers and the studs.

You already have the spacers. Replacing the studs is easy. Just get one that are like 3/16 longer or however thick your spacers are. You can find them almost anywhere.

Have you tried mounting them yet? Thats the quickest way to know if they will rub. Or do you not have the tires on the rims yet?

I run 17x7 Konig Ziege with 235/45r17s and HMS coilovers. No rubbing.

I have 17x7's with 225/45/17's with 48mm backspacing + 1/4" spacing due to 11.25" rotors.. so basicly a 42mm backspacing and have tons of room - the extra 5mm of tread width should clear fine - I used to run 245/50/16's some brands would rub at high speed and some would never rub at all

I havent tried mounting them yet. I didn't want to mount them and then have to pull them back off if they rub. I'm hoping for a once and done kind of thing.

Went out and got lugnuts and some McGard locks and put them on. We mounted the rears without the spacers and it would have worked, but it was really close. So we put the spacers on and there was plenty of stud so I didn't need new studs.

Here is a little info and a pic.

The wheels are Volution Racing VRD-16. They are 17"x7" with a 42mm offset. The tires are Bridgestone Potenza RE950 all around. The fronts are 215/45/17 and the rears are 235/45/17.
