Re: Improving suspension geometry?
I found a source for rod end heim joints in the 14mm-1.5 pitch from a store in the UK. I'll deal with that after the shocks get here and get new shock mounts made. I went with the Koni 30 series. Have the spacer/bracket finished and it certainly allows way more adjustment than I need. I'm thinking o...

Re: Improving suspension geometry?
Does anyone know of a source for 14mm-1.5 pitch heim joints? If I'm going to use the bump steer adjusters that Will linked to, I need to find some. Everything I've found googling are 14mm-2 pitch. Hopefully I can find female, but male with a coupling nut would work.

Re: Improving suspension geometry?
I'm running 600 lb springs front, 400 lb springs rear, with a 1" bar on the front with a 5" link. No bar on the rear. I don't know what kind of roll I'm getting, but the calculated roll is 1.15*/g. I have an app on my phone that says I'm pulling 1.4g momentarily and can hold about 1.2 g st...

Re: Improving suspension geometry?
Yes, they're stock knuckles. But with the added caster, I'll get some camber gain. Here's some data I recorded. I'm using a bubble camber gauge, so some of the readings are a little sketchy, but looking at the camber gain at 10* steering angle, at 1" compression it looks like running the caster...

Re: Improving suspension geometry?
Thanks for the link to the bump steer bolts. These look like I'd have to change the ball joint to a rod end to use. I can't measure the hub to fender distance, since I don't have any fenders right now. I'll do that soon. Surprisingly to me, I running the tie rod at about 4* will minimize toe changes...

Improving suspension geometry?
I lowered the car in the front to 5.5" chassis height. That of course puts both the lower and upper control arms at the wrong angles, though the LCA is pretty close. I created a spacer for the UCA to raise it an inch and move the mounting point rearward .75", to make it easier to get the 6...

Re: Increasing steering axis inclination on '88 front suspen
Added the spacer to one side of the car tonight and I can get all the camber and caster I want. I need to make some sort of shim between the new pivot mount and frame. One big problem, the UCA covers the lower bolts, so I may need to slot the UCA mounting points slightly so I have a small amount of ...

Re: Increasing steering axis inclination on '88 front suspen
It's not the ARB. I thought at first if was the LCA, but when disconnected, the UCA rotates freely. Hook it back up to the hub and it binds. I'm making the spacer to move the mounting points rearward by .8" and raise them 1". That will give me a static camber of -1.0* and 6.25* of camber o...

Re: Increasing steering axis inclination on '88 front suspen
Given the stock mounting points and the chassis lowered so the front subframe is at 5", I measured the camber gain at 20* in and out at statit height, 1.5" raised and 2" droop. static height- 0* steering-- 1.625* camber; 20* steering in- -4.25* camber; 20* steering out- +2.5* camber 1...

Re: Increasing steering axis inclination on '88 front suspen
I thought I would resurrect this thread, since it pertains to my effort to increase the camber and camber of my autocross car. At static height, I measured -1.625 negative camber and 6.625* caster. But the increased angle of the mounting points puts the suspension in a bind. I can get less then 2&qu...

Re: Shock Valving, Spring Rates
I should have the readouts for the 88 front suspension lowered 1 1/2" cycled through its motions in bump/compression and roll if that would help. I broke down and bought a suspension analysis program from Autoware, which should be here by the end of the week. It would be interesting to see how...

Re: Shock Valving, Spring Rates
That's a very light car. What are your corner weights? 505/501 front, 720/690 rear. What information do you have on the 30-5436 valving? Just from the Koni website. I've looked at buying shocks that can be valved, but the bilstein shim kit is almost $300. The Koni's are pretty clost to what I think...

Re: Shock Valving, Spring Rates
Hello, New to this website, but not to trying to make my 88 Fiero faster. Currently it's running in XP in autocross. Weight 2350 with a 4.9 caddy engine. Used to be owned by Tom Hill. I'm running 600 lb springs in the front and 400 lb in the rear. 275/35x15 A6 tires all around. I haven't concerned m...
