Re: Off the deep end, for fun
As Will was the only decent person here, and as he is now knowingly outright lying about the L03's torque ( really 275, not 255, check your '93 brochure, the page after the 454SS ) as well as the LT5s, both of which I can prove, and both of which can be independently verified, I'm done with all of y...

Re: BMW advice
The LT5 does not make anywhere near 300 ft-lbs at anywhere near 1200 RPM. Spreading that BS just to try to win an argument is truly wrong.

Re: Your day to shine, Atilla
The more you spout off, trying to bash, the more it proves you don't know what you're typing about. You contradict yourself suggesting my 550 HP V10 can compete against a 1200+ HP turbo build. Not possible. I don't want a 550-HP V-10, even though it can be done for $500. I'm not out to prove myself....

Re: BMW advice
The M30 3.5 is a 9:1 engine with 2 canted valves per cylinder. The head doesn't flow very well and the chamber shape is a mess. The S52 3.2 is a 10.5:1 engine with a 4 valve pent roof chamber and variable cam phasing on the intake cam. I have no doubt it produces a torque curve that's superior to t...

Re: BMW advice
Good grief, Will. ALL of the LSx engines have the pistons 0.010" out of the hole. Not a big deal. This came about because at the time, ( '96 ) GM was locked into composite head gaskets, 0.051"-thick, for aluminum-head V8s, whether traditional, LTx or LSx. So the only way to fix the quench ...

Re: Off the deep end, for fun
Got my monitor adjusted for minimum brightness of the screen, and my eyes are still burning and watering. Definitely time for a new welding helmet. I'm going back to bed now.

Re: Off the deep end, for fun
I tacked together the 6 main pieces of the rear hitch. I'm hurting, so I'm going to bed early. Hasta Manyana or whatever.

Re: Your day to shine, Atilla
A 5-grand budget!?!?! ANYone can get amazing numbers on that budget. How about a $500 budget? On that you can get anything you want from Pick-N-Pull, do your own porting, and order a custom cam. Then EVERYone would be doing the Dodge V10. Getting 550 HP from that, on $500, is possible. Too heavy for...

Re: Off the deep end, for fun
Yesterday I borrowed an electric sander and removed nearly all the rust off the hitch parts. Tomorrow should be spraying some primer and doing some spot-welding.

Re: Off the deep end, for fun
I've decided the cage / hitch / et cetera will be blue. I just didn't "feel" the red.

Re: BMW advice
I can see a tuned 3.2 giving more peak TQ than a 3.5, but for more average torque in the lesser-RPM ranges where 95% of all real-world driving is done, displacement ALWAYS wins, even with less-efficient combustion.

Re: Off the deep end, for fun
Please note that I'm not happy with any cage I'm posting, they're all focused on protecting front-seat passengers only. None have any concern for back-seat usage, of any sort, nor are any of these concerned with anything behind the rear suspension. So my design will be altered, but still I'm startin...

Re: Off the deep end, for fun
2 days of no forum. Why does this keep happening? Bad server / hosting? Anyway, I made more progress: While we're waiting for pics of my progress, here's the Competition Engineering 12-point roll-cage I'll be ordering as soon as I get my tax refund: http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb346/r0nnj0nn...

Re: 1985 AMC Eagle wagon build
You hit on an interesting point, or maybe 2 related points there. So don't take this as argument. There are all styles of traction differentials, you well know. Some, like the popular Eaton and the Auburn Pro, can use extra-stiff preload springs, and as such, low-traction situations make them act li...
