Re: Off the deep end, for fun

Dare to be different is great if it's for some real purpose other than just novelty. I love the Eagle build, even if I do differ on a few aspects. This mutant of mine has made me feel a bit younger. I wake up looking forward to it like nothing else in recent memory. I have a pair of 2.31" hitch...

Re: 1985 AMC Eagle wagon build

There's no way I'll ever run any trans without knowing the ratios more accurately than just 2 decimal places. And sometimes the only way to find out is to count for yourself the number of teeth on every gear. Ratios do matter. The 0.76:1 fifth was used in all the '88-'92 V6 Camaro / Firebird T5-WCs,...

Re: Bugatti Veyraon Qtr Mile

Missing the point, buddy. The Sledgehammer wasn't the first piston-engine-powered, 4-wheel thing to ever hit such a velocity, but it was the first that wasn't purpose-built. The Sledgehammer was just a modified 'vette on Gatorbacks, not tires built specifically for the Bonneville salt. As it was a C...

Re: Bugatti Veyraon Qtr Mile

Not quite as good as the Lingenfelter / Callaway Sledgehammer, the first 2-seat road car to go 254 MPH.

Re: Off the deep end, for fun

The 10.5" axle was offered in 4 different widths. Taking advantage, there are off-the-shelf 16x8" wheels that will fit. Probably looking for 255/55R16s if I go that route.

Off the deep end, for fun

Knowing full well what many of you think of me, but not giving a rip, here's a new thread for the new direction I've taken. I'm doing very well fabricating custom hitches ( who knew there was so much demand? ) and that POS under the back of my T/A just isn't anything I could live with. Recalling how...

Re: The Top Gear Thread.

The first couple of minutes about Jezza are funny, thanks. If you're still watching at the 4 minute mark, then you have a higher level of tolerance for drone-on-"comedians" than I do.

India special: don't bother watching, not worth it. In fact, I gave up on it entirely after 45 minutes.

Re: 5.3 Powered Datsun build thread

Front Engine Accessory Drive, "genius". What do you care about bumpsteer in a car not good for anything but straight-line racing? It's narrow, it can't fit serious tires, and as you note, the front geometry is already Fubar. But most good bumpsteer kits are adjustable by a full inch, so mo...

Re: 5.3 Powered Datsun build thread

If it's that close, grind on the alt, grind the crap off the top of the intake, grind the bracing on the underside of the hood, grind on the rack, and space the rack down, or mount it with offset bushings. All of this combined is cheaper than changing the oilpan or the manifold and FEAD.

Re: 5.3 Powered Datsun build thread

So the truck alternator and intake manifold are going to fit under the stock hood? Excellent!

I haven't heard back from Andy Wilman about my proposal, so I guess they aren't going to do it. If they do my idea without me, I will sue.

Re: 1985 AMC Eagle wagon build

It's a car. Think more like stealth WRX STI killer rather than Jeep Wrangler. Otherwise, just put the Eagle body on the Wrangler frame. And the STI can go around the mountain, on paved roads, faster, safer, and using less fuel than the Wrangler can go over the mountain. I haul much ass and I can not...

Re: 1985 AMC Eagle wagon build

Why change the gearing? 2.73s are stronger than 3.54s, for torque capacity of the R&P, and that 0.81 will be better for keeping the engine in the torque curve for top speed testing at Maxton. Also, Too much gearing won't allow the torquey V8 engine to really pull against a load in the lower gear...

I can too, you just can't see them when I do it my way. So I have a skill y'all don't? Stealth pics!
If you want to see pics, all it takes is sharing your technique with me. I'm out of ideas to try.

Re: 1985 AMC Eagle wagon build

Dam, I sound like Atilla. Congrats! Seriously. Way to share the relevant information! S0, 3.54:1 x 0.62:1, and let's hope you can fit 225/45R17s up front and 255/40R17s out back, at 25" diameter, gives 1770 at 60. That's decent. It's enough for a moderate cam, certainly. And MPG in the mid-20s.

Re: a Firebird ( not my T/A )

What the hell? I got the pics from my LG phone to my e-mail, then saved into my PC, but photobucket can't find them to upload. So I went back into e-mail to re-save to my PC, but then they show up. What the eff is the point of putting a camera in a phone if you can't post those pics to the internet?...
