Re: Alternate fuel
Aside from the BMW stupidity, I thought you had some smarts. But less throttle? Your grasp of basic automotive physics has fled. I have tried something very similar to my example, and obviously, you have not. Unless yours had a pair of 1150-cfm Holley Dominators on top. Did it? Your vacuum gauge wou...

a Firebird ( not my T/A )
It's like a glacier calving. That must be the closest analogy. Because after 2 decades of sitting in the exact same spot, this 'bird has moved! And not just a quarter inch, or even a couple of feet. But into the garage! So I washed it. Good start, yeah? Then I removed the headlights and trim, plus t...

Re: Alternate fuel
First, CNG being 1/5 the price of gasoline, means we can run up to 5 times as much of it. Stoich for gasoline is nominally 14.7:1. So the stoich for CNG could be like 3:1 before I'd care. I have no problem with how much extra fuel it takes when I'm at WOT. Now, if the gasoline 2.3 Rangers are a bit ...

Re: Alternate fuel
Amber's CNG 2.3L Ford Ranger is getting slightly more mpg than it's gasoline cousins. Admittedly, her tank occupies the front third of her Ranger's short bed, but smaller twin tanks are possible. Amber doesn't do spirited driving. She does great at rowing her own gears, however. I just can't get her...

Alternate fuel
First, go look around on www.gotpropane.com. Note they have kits for older, 4-barrel pickups at just $995 for everything but the bottle. If you have 5.5" between the air cleaner and the hood, you can have it dual-fuel, switch between propane and gasoline at will. That's just $895. They used to ...

Re: The Top Gear Thread.
Season 18? After the rumor that Top Gear was up for sale? Well, for now it seems there will be a season 18, based on the fact that this is still on BBC's Top Gear webpages: http://www.bbc.co.uk/topgear/show/participate.shtml Just no clue when 18x01 will be up on StreetFire, dammit! And since the 3 i...

Re: starting my 5.3 with pics
Okay, time to 'fess up: I crushed my Fiero months ago. The '88 cradle and IRS too. I was wrenching on the wrong Pontiac. I'm much happier wrenching on my '84 Trans Am and my landlord's '81 Firebird.

Re: S62 E30 AWD (Formerly: Fantastic V8 swap candidate)
E34's can take 18x10 rear wheels w/ 20mm offset and 18x9.5 front wheels w/ 7mm offset; FYI. That's decent. Not quire the 18+"x10.5"F and whatever " x 11" rear my '84 T/A will take, but decent. It's a different thing to actually have a suspension design that allows you to utilize...

Re: S62 E30 AWD (Formerly: Fantastic V8 swap candidate)
So I go from Pontiac to BMW and end up with the same steering problems  At least the iX has power steering. Not a Pontiac problem, just a Fiero problem. My T/A has 12.7:1 power steering, stock. That requires NO mods, even for an LSx or BBC 427-572 swap. And just as many seats as your Bimmer. ...

Re: Geo Tracker Swap ?s
I've seen one built with an LSx, but I'm sure they swapped a narrowed Ford 8.8" rear axle, and I have no clue nor care what they did under the front.

Re: 1985 AMC Eagle wagon build
Yeah, I'm starting to insulate half of my garage so I can keep going. Now wishing I'd started sooner. Having a running engine ready to drop in place of the mockup engine is motivating. And I'm not referring to my pickups or my Trans Am. ![Twisted Evil ](./images/smilies/spiteful.gif)

How is that any worse than all these front-turbo installs everyone is doing?
Or go back to the stock 6-cylinder, then do a rear-turbo, like Squires' / STS.

They don't care either, as long as the cat stays the same distance from the exhaust manifold. But if the steering is the only holdup, then the street-rod market has a solution.

Re: S62 E30 AWD (Formerly: Fantastic V8 swap candidate)
So who says they have to dump downward and rearward? Flip them all over, upside-down. If any clear that way, whether they dump forward or rearward, then progress can resume. It may take a bulged hood. Fine. No stealth to this swap anyway. It may take serious firewall and floorpan surgery. Fine. No p...

Re: Four cylinder Cummins for automotive use
Cummins building Nissan a 2.8L, 220 HP, 350 TQ for the Titan is one thing. But for automotive diesels, how about the police Jag diesel? 3.0L, and 0-60 in 5.9 seconds! That's better than most 305 / automatic Camaros did.

I'm the first to agree that quiet is most important, no sense in being way over-powered if you can't use it. And when a car is way over-powered, then giving up 20 horses is less of a problem.

Re: A thread for my 472? Trans Am
As I have the '049 heads, and am at 4400' elevation. I'm not going with a 427. Maybe if there were some small-chamber peanut-port heads, and I had the funds on hand for custom pistons, but alas and alack. No mega-domes for me. Plus that 3.76" crank might be ruined. And I can get a good used pea...
