I don't feel this thread has been jacked, didn't it start out like that? If anyone's guilty, it's me, not Aaron, so I apologize.

So is the a/c stuff a restriction to flow, or are you not wanting fast circulation, or could a pump upgrade be in the works, or what?

What do you mean "build a harness"? I expect to spend 2 days in the Pick-n-Pull trying to pull a stock harness IF I can find one. With the truck 5.3, I can use the Painless harness, or call Speartech or a dozen others. That said, If you have any options I've missed, please tell! -Dave

Competition Engineering makes a quick-release torque link for the 5.0 Mustang, but that doesn't seem right for this Fiero.

I'm putting a truck 6.0 version of the LS1 in my '84 Trans Am this June, and I'm tempted to choose the truck 5.3 over a 3.4 DOHC V6 simply because of the matter of wiring harnesses. You recon a 5.3 like BlackCoffee's, but with a T76 might see 11.9s in the 1/4 mile? Probably have to go 4T65E at that ...

I'd put a chain on it, a bit loose, partly to keep the mounts from breaking, and partly for safety if they do break. With the chain taking the force, the mounts are free to isolate vibration more.

P.S. The RHS heads are way better than the Worlds, and the EQs are great. But we run fuel as well as air through our intake ports, until we get direct injection for the mouse. I will admit I've never touched any EQ heads, so the RHS is my second choice. A 180cc head will suffice for 5300 rpm, and be...

first issue is budget, always. Yes, rehoning of some sort is needed, IMHO, but you might be thinking "bottle-brush" hone. Better than nothing. I'd get new rings, and check those piston skirts. I can say from experience that reusing scuffed hypereutectic pistons in a rehoned 355 chevy is no...

I'd imagine that the 2.8, as a 5k rpm engine, with a 3.65:1, and a 3.4 DOHC, with my 4.10:1, assuming it's strong enough, would seem equally "cat's ass", only the 3.4/4.10 more so.

A very interesting thread! Will, I don't agree with your (4/3)*175=233, as power is being used to pump the dead cylinders. I'd say more like 175=185=247. Or am I missing something?

my math agrees with fieroguru, but here's the formula for finding your speed with taller (or shorter) tires: (rpmxDia.)/(gearx336) where 336 is the constant. so, 3.65 times 1.24 is 4.526. 4.526 times 336 is 1520.736. now, 5996.4 times 24.6 is 147511.44. finally, 147511.44 divided by 1520.736 is 97.0...

I am really surprised, I've done dozens of sets of 882s and never seen a bad one. But those x heads are sought after. Even so, I've been thinking about your combo. I would've chosen a set of Dart Iron Eagle 180s over stroking, but as you have the cubes, I'd spring for the Dart Iron Eagle Platinum-se...

As for that article at AFR, realize that as the annual EMC proves, engines are far less octane tolerant in a car than they are on a dyno. 87 octane on the dyno requires at least 89 in a real car, more so if it's a manual trans.

The vortec heads are my specialty. I've ported and flowed them literally hundreds of times. Part of why they resist detonation is the smoother combustion chamber. Part is their high swirl. (and I don't mean the pre-96 swirl-ports) If you're gonna go vortecs, please find out your cam specs and post t...

not telling me anything I dont already know. That said, manufacturers nearly always go narrow. A 275/40 on a nine, like on some 96-02 Z28s, is not fun. My 95 z28 actually handled better after I replaced my 275/40s with the widest 245/45 I could find. But to get to the other end of the canyon in the ...

Wow, we've sure digressed. On Friday, June 6, I'm going to Pick N Pull, to look for a TDC, a.k.a. 3.4DOHC, but I'm also getting a 6.0 from an 01 truck for my 84 trans am. I'm seriously thinking a 5.3 with an aluminum flywheel might not kill my trans. at my elevation, the N/A (non-turbo) correction f...
