Welding question and link to my new project car

I am in the process of building a knock off of the old Lotus 7 car. It is a locost and here is the build site. Just scroll down to the build log. http://www.scrabblegod.com/locost My question relates to the oil pan for this car. The pan on the SHO is cast. What is the actual material of cast pans an...

Building my Locost

I put the Fieros on the back burner for a while and have started building a Locost. The Locost is a knockoff of the early/mid sixties Lotus Seven series. When completed, it should come in around 1400lbs. It will be powered by a Taurus SHO V-6 converted to rwd with a Ranger 5spd. The space frame is c...

The trans is from a 01 2wd Ranger and the engine is a slightly modded 93 Taurus SHO. I could go with a t-5 trans from a V-8 Mustang as it has a longer input shaft, but it requires an elusive aerostar standard shift bellhousing and an adapter between the bellhousing and trans. http://www.scrabblegod....

Question about trans torque ratings.

When a manufacturer issues a torque rating, is it based on the weight of the vehical it is to be installed in, or is it an absolute rating? I have a 5 spd rwd trans from a 3200lb auto. It is rated at 200ftlb of torque. What is the net result of using this trans in a 1400lb vehicle with 240ftlbs of t...

It is the V-6. I know where there is a V-8 that needs a head gasket, but the owner thinks he has the last one in the world.

Thanks for the replies. I was without access for a day. Several years ago, I started to build a light weight car. The car is a Locost, and is a replica of the late 50s Lotus 7 series car. I got into Fieros and the project was pushed to the side. I am going to get back on it. I was originaly going to...

Effects of weight reduction?

Ignoring variable such as aero drag and traction, are acceleration times directly related to weight and HP? ie: Will a 150HP car weighing 1500lbs perform the same as a 300HP car weighing 3000lbs? I guess this also assumes both are optimally geared for their rpm range. If not, is there a generic form...

You do not have to cut the transmossion with the 4.9. You do have to cut the decklid hinge with the 3.4Dohc. I think it depends on your choice of trans. With an auto, I would use the 4.9. With a stick, I would go with the 3.4. I have both. The 3.4 I built for my wife with an auto. Since I bought her...

Yet if you go to the Eaton site, they state it is for engines displacing 3.0-5.0 liters.
They rate the M62 for 2.5-4.0 liter engines and the M90 flows 50% more per revolution.

Here is the coupler I use. A friend cranks them out on a CNC. The bearings I buy at the local bearing supplier.

Re: Eaton SC mounting question

Sweet and you're going to run a tube from the bottom of the SC to the intake? As for the breather, the nut at the front of the pulley is the breather. On the Thunderbird SC, the air discharge is out the top through a tube to the intercooler. It will go from there to the intake. I have not decided o...

I am lowering the compression.

Here is the link, but it will be of no help. It seems to be the land of CAIs and big exhaust. Not much else in performance info. I do not think the 4.6 valves will fit as the valves on the 4.0 are near the chamber wall. Maybe with a little clearancing they would fit. They are mounted on the same cen...

Aurora 4.0 Supercharged

This is a cut and paste post from an Aurora board I went to looking for info on the 4.0 What is the actual compression ratio on the Aurora? I know on the 4.6 it is 10.3-1 and it has a 53cc combustion chamber. Does any one know the cc of the Aurora head? The 4.6 head also flows better than the 4.0 he...

The last year Supercoupe had a much improved M90.

The advantage to me for the Thunderbird Sc is the discharge on top of the SC which will feed to the intercooler and the intercooler will feed right into the rear of the stock intake.
