Re: Super-fast ratio ZR1 power steering rack in '88

You can check the pump output in pressure and flow on AllData or the GM factory manual for the LQ1 and the Corvette, even if the assist is controlled at the spool valve, if youre flow and pressure are reasonably in the range of the rack, lowering the relief spring force in the pump will help lower t...

Re: 87 Fastback L47 Chump Car/ Lemons Project.

Progress is still slow, more seam sealer gone and more seams stitched.

Got some night lights for the 25HR race.

Re: 87 Fastback L47 Chump Car/ Lemons Project.

Some actual progress albeit slow. I am in the process moving from my current residence. Seem welding is going OK, the frame's coating was not easy to get off with a wire wheel on a 4" grinder, and a sanding disc doesn't get in the seam well. A sanding disc, wire wheel, and torch made the seams ...

Re: COMPACT 90 degree mufflers

I have some ideas about serious wheel bearing fixes. I also run 115 bearings in the rear. I'm currently using the A-body HD knuckles with 10.5x1 rotors. I'm considering bumping that up to the U-body van knuckles with 11x1.x rotors and even bigger bearings when I upgrade to 13's on the front. Never ...

Re: 87 Fastback L47 Chump Car/ Lemons Project.

I will not use an NVRAM, just a burned chip soldered on a factory memcal. its a 500$ budget, and a $5 chip is the most logical option.

Re: 87 Fastback L47 Chump Car/ Lemons Project.

It has a 24X wheel on the crank, with two sensors, and a 2 position cam sensor. hence my pondering on reference angle, the 70degree doesn't make sense to me as far as the geometry of the sync signal. The 7165 ECU has no internal knock filter, the cars it was equipped in have external knock filters, ...

Re: 87 Fastback L47 Chump Car/ Lemons Project.

I have a question regarding the DIS as well as the knock control used with the 7730 and Ryan Hess' tune. Ryan doesn't have the timing offset or the max or min advance/retard as parameters in his .xdf The V6 DIS has an offset of 70* in the $12P, the V6 DIS (and 4Cyl?) has a 3X ref pulse to the ECU an...

Re: High Temperature High Sheer Oil Viscosity - Reading

OIl is slippery.
Some people found that through magic, they can make oil more viscous when you press harder, and make it hotter. (it behave less than Newtonian.)
Engines need oil to move.

Re: High Temperature High Sheer Oil Viscosity - Reading

Great Stuff, I love the internet. Engine lubrication is black art it seems, "expert" builders rarely make decisions based on scientific reasoning, but usually on hearsay or what works. But there for OEMs there is a real financial backing in the design of their lubrication systems, even if ...

Re: 87 Fastback L47 Chump Car/ Lemons Project.

This .bin (OSE $12p) is a map based VE fueling .bin, off of one table. According to: http://www.fiero.com/forum/Forum2/HTML/119333-2.html#p41 and http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/posts/dfi-ecm/463080-aldl-serial-questions/3657903-post2.html the ecu can communicate at 8192 baud, I'm not very familia...

Re: 87 Fastback L47 Chump Car/ Lemons Project.

It is the ECU used in MAF 86-89 F-bodies, and Corvettes, and in TBI 4 cylinder cars. This .bin is heavily modified, and based off an australian application. From what I have seen it looks like a very cheap version of running a haltech or similar speed density ECU. http://www.delcohacking.net/forums/...

Re: 87 Fastback L47 Chump Car/ Lemons Project.

Im sure the jjudges would raise an eybrow to scalloped rotors. I think the path to go here is the A-body/Early U-body knuckle assembly, less leg work, and I still will gain benifit. Another change to the plan is we are ditching the 1227730 ecu. It would be great if this car was a daily driver, but t...

Ok, for the hub pieces: http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b361/FieroWannaBe/hubs.png top is the 92-99 Minivan hubs Middle is the A-body HD hubs, and 90-91 U body hubs and bottom is the Fiero. They are all bigger that the Fiero's, but the later models have a 33 spline hub earlier have 27, I will have...

Re: 87 Fastback L47 Chump Car/ Lemons Project.

The whole reason for choosing the minivan brakes, was because of their much larger Hub cartridges. Does any one know how the HD A-body hubs compare to the dinky fiero hubs? I had a Buick Century in college, it had vented rotors, but on a 5x100 pattern, and the hubs looked about the same as the Fiero...

Re: 87 Fastback L47 Chump Car/ Lemons Project.

From my previous experiences, the front brakes fade much sooner than rears, The e30 got 2 race weekends on the rear pads, and only one on the fronts. But its a valid point directly comparing specs: http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b361/FieroWannaBe/brakes.png the minivan rotors are much heavier, an...

Re: 87 Fastback L47 Chump Car/ Lemons Project.

No matter how much we spend, a FIero to the rest of the automotive world is only ever worth $500. Costs, so far, aren't outrageously more that one would spend preparing any other car, the labor is the high part here. Were replacing the things anyone should when a car is over 25 years old, It's just ...
