Dude, the oil pump's a LOT easier than the bearings. If nothing else, the pump requires one bolt vs. 12 for the rods and another 12 for the mains; then there's the effort to R&R the bearings (x10); time spent plastigauging to verify clearance, etc. yes, true. its just since you've already done ...

not sure if ya got one - but gonna ask:

I need a dowel pin. the one that goes in the block, and aligns the head gasket & the heads. goes in the lower left & right head bolt holes. somehow, my block is missing one.

Replacing the rod bearings on an engine will only take up 1/2 of your clearances, the crank wears too. I dont know about the 2.8, but you have to remove the oil pump on my Quad 4 to get to the crank. and, again - the cam gets oiled first - so - if your loss is there - the rods & mains are moot....

I keep forgetting how many certified welders we have among us... how are the weld lacking? Can you describe? yes - I can - they are incomplete, leaving gaps. when you look directly into the pipe, you can see daylight between the pipe & the flange. but, me not being certified, I may be mistaken....

..... Solutions: -Reduce bearing clearances through overhaul (hard) -Install oil pump that flows enough oil to maintain pressure with new bearing clearances (easy) Both are equally effective. and - both are equally easy - you drop the oil pan. from there, you can easily change the rod bearings. and...

nope - not stainless - correct there!
no digi cam...but, my boy with the welder does
small crack on the trunk side header, where they collect.
and, I noticed soot on one of the clamps, and saw the welds for the joints are lacking, so gonna add some there also.

overall still happy with them - thanks

1st Q - when the pressure is reading way low - does it tick? if no - the pressure is NOT to low (yet) you can drop the oil pan, and replace the main & rods bearings. this will often help. a verification of pressure, with a mechanical guage is a good idea - but - what you are experiencing is pret...

well, it could be either one - but I'd guess towards the head gasket - that is its job after all to fail before the head cracks. either way - you gotta do the same job - remove the head - then you'll know.

I would like a set of urethane mount bushings for the steering rack. The right one is beyond using and the left one is not much better. when would you be able to get them to me and how much do you want for the two bushings shipped to 85023? Thanks not a clue - I just threw it out there but, I will ...

he means the mounting bushings - not the rack bushing I am replacing the rack on a Escort, and using poly bushings for the mounts. I havent seen them available for Fieros. but, as I mentioned in another thread - maybe this guy should just buy a block of poly, and carve out what he wants. rack, sprin...

The reason I'm not doing a DOHC is because STOCK IS WHAT YOU GET, replacement parts are scarce and expensive, performance parts are either not to be found or ungodly expensive, there is NOWHERE to go with it as a performance platform without investing WAY more than a built 3.4 (albeit more HP to be...
