So when we increase bar size/stiffness, we need to appropriately change damping as if we increased the spring rate? yup. with the sway bar, the ups & downs gets loaded onto both springs. when you add a rear sway bar to Fiero, the rear gets really stiff. but, thats probably why we like it so muc...

disconnect your front sway bar & put some sloppy shocks up front (or set the adjustable ones to soft). start the slide by hitting the turn hot, when the front starts coming loose, let of the gas quickly to upset the car, and be ready to nail it again & stay in it. with practice, you should b...

there is no set size. you use what works for YOUR particular car. there are many other things in picking a sway bar than just "whats my front sway bar size?" if you have no rear sway bar, there is NO WAY you can know what size will be right for you, and theres is nothing wrong with just gr...

well, almost. a engine runs its best at a particular operating temperature. the parts (rings, rods, pistons, etc) are sized expecting a certain amount of expansion. also, the O2 sensor needs to be up to temp to run a computer controlled car. anyways - just try it. go to the drag strip. let the car s...

the neutral position is pretty wide. the reverse position is the one I worry about the most. its a very small jump from the 1-2 select to the R select.

well, I'm gonna stick with hydraulic clutch & solenoid shifting. gonna scavange some auto door locks, see if they got the throw for the shifting. I guess step one will be eliminating the shift cables, and making "push button" shifting. each push will need to activate a 2-step shift, st...

Re: I'm going drag racing. Advice requested.

This Sunday I'm going drag racing for the first time. Some friends and I are bringing a variety of cars to try our hand at bracket racing. I don't really care about the bracket racing part, I mainly just want to see my ETs. I'm taking my Formula 5-spd. ...... didnt notice this was such an old threa...

The norm is heat produces power, oil is thinner, combustion chambers are hotter etc. This is proven by Nascar, for example, oil and water heaters are hooked up before qualifying. Now tranny fluid heated up isn't good so that may be what the difference is in your situation. Also a trick is to Deeeee...

...A hydraulic clutch wouldn't be too hard. You could use a power steering pump to provide pressure, one on/off solenoid to disengage, and a PWM solenoid to apply. The on/off solenoid would be between the slave cylinder and the pump and would be normally closed. When you command a shift, the on/off...

ideally, a fully automated manual transmission. My drunken park daydream had a shifter laid out like: 1 D 3 N 2 R 4 and I can just push the shifter into "1", no pedals at all, and the clutch would slip away and I roll away. Then do it again, except holding 3000 RPM, and I push it into &quo...

I dont want to power a torque convertor. thats roughly 5-10 HP, running the torque convertor/trans pump. yes, rev limiter/ignition cut-out is a great idea - things are looking good again. and, I'm more familear with electronics than with hydraulics, thats why I started with solenoids. but the hydrau...

well, just thought of a big problem with my idea......
letting the throttle off during the shift. as it is right now, when the clutch goes in, the motor will rev out. ug.
nevermind....

well, my car was identically prepared all day....:) we had LOTS of time, and not alot of people were running, so I could basicly run back to back to back. first run was ALWAYS the fastest. after 3 runs, I'd go back, park with all the other Fieros, and yack. hour or so later, do it again. again, 1st ...

well, being its reading the TPS also, the "clutching" should get more aggresive as the throttle goes down, so the "street/strip" setting will be the throttle. and, I'm not really got a plan yet, just ideas. the benifit I'm going for is FAST shifting. it started out with just usin...
