Re: The Mule rides again (sort of) - pics.

Thanks, and no, I wasn't trying to make you dig up old slips or anything. I'm just trying to get a reference for where the car should be going down the track. I ran a 14.2 at 106 with major shifting issues and a best of 13.4 at 106. 3800sc cars seem to run faster times and lower mph so I was wonderi...

Re: The Mule rides again (sort of) - pics.

How do your times compare to your old engine and what do you expect in the quarter?

Re: replacing my 3900 exhaust, need advise

Thanks, I'm thinking with some fine tuning, cooler weather and a better launch it'll do 13.5 but I don't know where to go from there. I do have a 4speed manual but I'm not ready for that yet.

Re: replacing my 3900 exhaust, need advise

my iphone doesn't like time slips but 60'-2.026 330-5.797 1/8-8.892 mph-79.80 1000-11.595 1/4-13.886 mph-96.58 Any advise is appreciated. I tried power braking on the second run but creeped and lost the staging light. third run I shifted early to avoid the rev limiter but ran a 13.96. I'll practice ...

Re: replacing my 3900 exhaust, need advise

we were talking about you doing the tune through the mail but the shop that did it last time wanted another go at it. I was still going to send the chip in today to have a few changes made and have you take a look at things but there is a car show on the first so it'll have to wait another week. I d...

Re: replacing my 3900 exhaust, need advise

I got the 3900 dyno'd. Sorry sinister, the shop talked me into just making the changes. It's got 166tq at 3000 rpm and peaks at 3,381rpm with 239tq. It tapers off and has about 200 at 6,000rpm. horsepower really starts at 3,200rpm with about 150hp and tops at 6,000rpm with 237 hp. I'll be going to t...

Re: replacing my 3900 exhaust, need advise

yeah, I had some lifter noise. In case anyone goes down this road, don't use the LS6 lifter springs in the lifters. Some pumped up and some didn't, stock replacements fixed this problem. My oil pressure is around 45psi and doesn't fluctuate much with rpm's. I'm guessing this isn't compatible with th...

Re: replacing my 3900 exhaust, need advise

I didn't go with the given advise, sorry guys. I did build some long tube headers. 5 came out between 31'' and 32''. cylinder 4 was short at 26''. 1 5/8'' tube merged into 2.5'' pipe with a merge pipe. couldn't swing a real x-pipe so I worked with what I had. Cutting the lower trunk I fit two corsa ...

Re: replacing my 3900 exhaust, need advise

Probably not going to happen. I still need to order the rest of my exhaust, pay for the gears to be installed and the cam installation. I am way over budget. if you guys knew what I've got tied up into it I'ld be in the other thread getting laughed at.

Re: replacing my 3900 exhaust, need advise

Well, you guys talked me into it. I'm buying Don Kraus' old 3.69 gears and input shaft. It's a good price, he's 10 minutes from work and with the engine and trans out the timing won't get any better. Big cam, long tube headers and lower gears should make a decent improvement in the car. Not trying t...

Re: 3X00 and 4t45e Questions

Keep in mind the 3900 doesn't have the 24x crank sensor on the crank pulley. It makes obd2 more difficult. I think the non vvt 3500 can swap timing covers from a 3400 though. Not positive.

I don't have the tools to do cam bearings or change springs. I'll leave that to someone who does it for a living.

Re: replacing my 3900 exhaust, need advise

not much to see right now. Engine is out and I'll drop it off at the machine shop this week. He said 2 weeks to get it done. I have a few things to take care of in the mean time, so no big deal.

Re: replacing my 3900 exhaust, need advise

This is good news. I just got the engine out and after looking at it again I'm not sure I could go with a true dual setup. The oil cooler takes up a lot of space. I'll still remake my headers in as equal length as possible without crapping up the entire engine bay. Is the crossflow muffler as good a...

Re: replacing my 3900 exhaust, need advise

The nicest headers I've seen with the stock routing are the FOCOA ones. Following that design I don't think would allow for a decent length primary. I suppose any sort of equal length would be better than what I have. I definately can't live with a single exhaust though. I suppose a cost effective w...

Re: replacing my 3900 exhaust, need advise

http://modernmusclecars.net/forums/showthread.php?t=10353 I was going off of this list. It seems the magnaflows are quieter than the spintec I am currently using. I'm really not sure what else to look at. Do I just need to add a couple catalytic converters? If I avoid a crossover like I want fitting...

Re: replacing my 3900 exhaust, need advise

It's an 88. I managed to keep the trunk stock with the first exhaust but I've decided to cut the bottom in order to make a longer and hopefully quieter exhaust. Still no opinion on magnaflows and corvette tips?
