They key points for the article: Any normally-aspirated domestic V8 engine block Superchargers, turbos, nitrous or other power-adders are prohibited. McDonald says the contest, will have one main, overriding rule: once the contest is over and the winner is declared, the winning engine can be purchas...

Re: To the idiot that designed the 3.4 DOHC water pump
You do realize that the water pump insert you are blaming the 3.4TDC for is the exact same one that had been used on the FWD 2.8/3.1 variants before the TDC was even offered. I even ran it on my SBC swap with the custom water pump housing... I think it is a compact/efficient and low cost water pump ...

Well, power recipes for SBCs is my domain, and I tolerate no insubordination, from anyone, ever. Reciting published articles for engine builds does not make you a SBC expert beyond question or debate. Show me written proof of an engine builder or magazine even making reference to your skills or acc...

Re: Weight of V6 exhaust system?
Here is the stock exhaust system I weighed (with cat):
With the postal scale under the muffler = 19 lbs 9 oz
With the postal scale under the cat = 6 lbs 3 oz
Total just under 26 lbs.

Re: Weight of V6 exhaust system?
I have one outside I can weight this afternoon.
After melting some aluminum collector gaskets, I do not think aluminum has any place in the exhaust system.

Re: Measuring Chassis Torsional Rigidity
The C5 & C6 Corvettes use a bolt-in panel to close off their driveline/exhaust tunnels to increase chassis stiffness. I think that the front and rear frame rails do not tie in to the center tunnel very well. To make the center tunnel contribute better to the stiffness of the body, it needs to b...

Re: Measuring Chassis Torsional Rigidity
Fieroguru, where did you get those pics? The under panel pics are mine from a roadster I was helping to build. I have quite a few more. The other pic is from another friends roadster build with quite a bit of reinforcement including connecting the front/rear frame rails through the floor pan area. ...

Re: Measuring Chassis Torsional Rigidity
At least on the 88's, I would consider the front crossmember to be a structural component. It is quite beefy and the 8 mounting bolts are spread out on the front frame rails. To test an 88, I would pull the lower a-arms off and mount the beam via the lower a-arm mounting tabs. I am all for making th...

Have image on desktop. Log into Photobucket. Upload photos to Photobucket. Copy image URL. Put URL inside tags. Photobucket even adds the tags. Just hover your mouse pointer over the pic on your photobucket screen, a drop down will appear, just click on the 4th one ("IMG CODE"), and it au...

Re: Fantastic V8 swap candidate
I think the diff is mounted to the frame on the Silverado, but I don't know about the Trailblazer. The trailblazer SS front differential is bolted directly to the side of the oil pan with the axle going through the pan: http://tomboynton.com/JuneWork4.jpg http://www.ls1fc.com/images/dim_oil_pan_53_...

Excellent information! Thank you very much! I've always be meaning to figure out what V8Archie was doing to use them with the F40, just never got around to it. Glad I could help. My LS4/F40 thread documents the modifications I made to the 4 speed for my F40 swap... that's were some of the pictures ...

Re: Need a five speed shifter...
Just modify the 4 speed shifter that is in the car. In the pic below there is a 5 speed shifter on the left, and two 4 speed shifters on the right. Both of the 4 speeds have been converted to 5 speed function, but using 2 different methods: http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s162/fieroguru/LS4/IMG_8...

Re: Remote Water Pump - Flow Theory.
The car is currently carbed but will be converted to EFI sometime in the near future - I believe courtesy of BMWGuru. I believe it is coming to my place for the EFI upgrade once I get done reworking another SBC/Getrag swap. I am with Will on the controller... total waste of $$$ and will do more har...

Re: Remote Water Pump - Flow Theory.
There really isn't ANY room for fabrication - kind of at that point where a raised weld on something I built would defeat the purpose using the bypass; so the drivetrain clears the frame. I respectfully disagree... At the rear most water pump inlet (as installed in the fiero), you should have 1 3/4...

Re: Remote Water Pump - Flow Theory.
You will want to install the water pump on the radiator outlet on the passenger side, the heater core return needs to be plumbed into the pump (or in the hose between the radiator and the pump. The heater core outlet from the engine "should" be as close to the thermostat housing (plumbed u...

Re: 88 Shift Cables
I had used Rodney's Getrag Select cable since 2005 and ordered 2 new ones for my F40 swap. The new cables are slightly different, but still good cables. The big thing to keep in mind is the ball stud on the old cables were spring loaded and you could easily pop them off and use these cables on the t...

It's not aluminum, but you can get a 3 1/2" donut in 304 stainless from here:
