Re: wet sump engine oil control, a thread.
Depends on what rods are being used. The steel scrapers I was getting weren't close enough to the stock rods to require any modification, but the teflon versions obviously were. are they close enough to the rods and crank to be effective? ideally, they need to be just short of touching, thats frequ...

Re: wet sump engine oil control, a thread.
it probably wouldn't be too terribly hard to install a crank scraper with the engine still in the car. it wouldn't be fun to trim it for a close fit, but not impossible.

I remember seeing Mike Finnegan (roadkill, hot rod garage, ect) swap gears for harder or softer gears in one of his cars for the reasons you describe. that's a very interesting tidbit about the BMW parts.

I still need to verify what would have the VIN on it still, I'm checking FB marketplace and Craigslist now. I'm betting it's getting parted.

Re: wet sump engine oil control, a thread.
bad-news.png Is this a 3.4 DOHC? it is, it would be great to see if/how much a crank scraper helps. I'm unfamilliar with the oil drains on a LQ1, anyone have pictures of how the heads drain to through the block? +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ one of the things I was considering, was to plug th...

shenanigan's... the 4L80 NP305 situation isn't quite as I thought. https://i.imgur.com/l9IxTnp.jpg note, the adapter plate thickness, approximately one crumby lite beer can thick. now, the adapter on my NP205 https://i.imgur.com/anoLBfU.jpg considerably thicker than a crumby lite beer can.... the wa...

Re: Eric's Harley/sidecar???
well, looks like that might have been one if the last great rides on that bike.... some crackhead stole it, it was sighted a few miles from my house, but by the time the fuzz and I got there, it wasn't there anymore. I'm 99.99% sure the crackhead has it, but there's not much I can do now.

Re: wet sump engine oil control, a thread.
Please post up the results! I'll be very interested to hear them. It's worth mentioning that oil control applies to more than just the sump, I assume you have a PVC system of some kind? It's possible that the PCV is pulling oil from the valve covers, do you notice any knock retard or knock sensor ac...

yesterday, while I had a brief moment, I checked and found I do have 3 F23's in the garage, 1 XFE trans, 1 metric bell cavalier trans in ok shape, and 1 metric bell cav trans that was in the Gran Damn, but is damaged. so I guess it's good news that i have a pair of transmissions I can put together. ...

The dirty 454 is in the dirty shop... https://i.imgur.com/MWvc8FN.jpg I had plans to work on cleaning it up and getting vaguely started on wiring when I got off work in the mornings, however, the AC was acting up at the girlfriend's house, and I know how to fix things, so my mornings were spent repl...

Re: wet sump engine oil control, a thread.
here's a nasa document about baffling rocket fuel tanks, being that a rocket is more or less traveling in a single direction, and are typically round, it may not be 100% applicable here, but ideas can be gleamed from it. https://ntrs.nasa.gov/api/citations/20130000590/downloads/20130000590.pdf I'm c...

Re: cheap AF OBX F23 differential.
I'll have to look into that. FWIW, the files I used for the "spatter" defects, didn't really seem to cut into the gear teeth much, I suspect they're fairly hard, I need to do some reading on gear hardness requirements, it's not something that's typically discussed, but in this case, if I d...

Re: wet sump engine oil control, a thread.
I watched this video earlier, I found it quite entertaining, but also very interesting, one, I think the viper oil pan is dumb, the integrated pickup makes a simple part complicated, and two, he used quite alot of baffling in his pan, and the rubber trap doors seemed interesting, I've frequently see...

Re: cheap AF OBX F23 differential.
I don't know what it costs to check the hardness or if it could be hardened if necessary but for what that costs I have to wonder. Having it polished in a tumbler might not be a bad idea. I am not a transmission oriented person but an OBX part inside my trans would not excite me. The washers hopefu...

I went to the junkyard today and found a couple of windage tray, one of the great things about working on an engine nobody cars about, is that you can sometimes find them sitting on the ground and it's easy to get parts off, today, there were three sitting on the ground, two LZx engines, and one LX9...

when I talked to John at Comp, I asked and he couldn't say for sure. he did say that he didn't expect a price change between now and then though, so I would imagine fairly soon.

I build the cam position sensor, but unfortunately for me, a measurement error means I need to remake the shaft... erg. I have more stock for the shaft, and will try and get it made up later this week.

cheap AF OBX F23 differential.
I was planning on buying a Quaife, but when I was sent an ad for an OBX for $175 shipped, I decided I would give it a go, a buddy has one, and is running it in his DD Fiero with a 3.9 swap, and he seems to like it quite a bit, and claims it made a marked improvement on how the car drove. I bought mi...
