Re: 262's 1970 GMC

I'd like to see the 4200 in there, I personally like the motor though I admittedly have very little practical experience with it. Good looking truck. Can't tell if its a nice truck, or you've gone all VW vortex and taken nice photos of a pile of shit. lol, we'll say that the truck is soli...

Re: 262's 1970 GMC

The atlas makes good power and torque, and should get decent economy, and be more unique, it's what I intend to use in the truck. I sometimes like doing things people tell me not to do.

Re: 262's 1970 GMC

we'll just say I like taking the path less traveled. like I said, not worried about the truck hauling ass, more just having a fun, unique, daily driver.

Re: 262's 1970 GMC

picked up an old pickup for a beater driver. currently has a 327 or 350 (SPID says 350, block casting says 327), turns out it's burning oil on #6, runs ok still, but I'm not a fan of riding on 7 good cylinders and one bad... long term I'm going to swap a vortec 4200 I6 and a 4L65E into it. I'm goin...

Re: Rod and Crank bearing inspection; do I have to replace?

Would there be any benefit/danger to having the IMS and crank journals repolished? ( or would this be a foregone conclusion upon replacing bearings ) You should have the crank polished if you can. Just measure them first to make sure you're not on the small end of the spec. If you're at the middle ...

Re: Clutchnet Vs. Spec

I've been shifting my 282 at 7k. It's slower than I'd like going into 2nd, even with the 3.50/2.19 combo, *but* I still have ATF in it and haven't swapped to Synchromesh yet. A full face disk will result in slower shifts than a puck-type disk. A larger diameter disk will also shift more slowly than...

Re: Clutchnet Vs. Spec

I have experience with multiple clutches from both vendors. I thought I had a comparison thread on here somewhere but I'm not sure where it went. Did you do a search? Some info: Clutchnet Dual Friction http://realfierotech.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=17112 The Clutchnet disc looks much sturdi...

Clutchnet Vs. Spec

I'm looking at two clutches for my 3500 F23 fiero, a clutchnet stage 3 or a spec stage 3. anyone have any real world experience with either clutch?

if you go the 3900 route, do you plan to keep VVT and the variable intake? if not, what are your plans for engine management?

goodluck!

Re: Notchback Rear Aero

I purchased a Nascar Car of Tomorrow (COT) wing from Ebay. The wing uses the LNV109A airfoil. The reason I mounted it so far back and high is to improve the chance of it ending up in relatively clean airflow. "Any time you can raid a NASCAR parts bin, do it." - from that shock comparison ...

Re: progress on the banshee...

Thanks!

it's looking like it will cost around that to have it shipped here, I only have one quote so far, and it was for $850. it might be cheaper to get a Uhaul trailer and haul it myself, IDK, I've still got some time to iron that out.

for me, it was Seebees or Submarines, in this instance, submarines won. I've signed as a nuke, we'll see how far that goes though. I want to be a nuke Machinist's Mate and go to welding school for some professional training, instead point and shoot I've been doing for the past couple of years. I'm s...

Oh yeah, I think you'd mentioned that before... I knew you were in Pensacola. Don't go too wild in NOLA the night before! You'll pay for it! Is there a boot camp in NOLA, or are they sending you to Great Lakes? Hangover +bootcamp sounds like a Terrible idea... I will be at great lakes, it is the na...

Re: progress on the banshee...

got the engine back, finished the final assembly, installed the flywheel and clutch, installed a new HTOB, bled the master, bled the line, started bleeding the HTOB, and apparently, it's defective. there's a nice little puddle of hydraulic fluid dripping out from the bellhousing. :-o never got a ped...

Re: LX5 "shortstar" crank/cam sensors

I think the only guy who's done anything serious with one of those was RickAdy on Old Europe. Some outfit who used to offer Northstar ECM's and sand-rail wiring harnesses also claimed to work with the Shortstar... It's been a LOOONG time since I looked for them, though. yeah, I read a couple of his...

Re: crank triggers?

Larger wheel is more accurate... that's why a good many OE systems put the triggering notches on the flywheel or flexplate. However, larger diameter means greater MOI. The MOI of a basic Chevy flexplate is approximately the same as that of the entire crankshaft, due to the dependence of MOI on the ...
