Re: Variable Valve timing.

All the OE systems end up fully retarded on a cold start. You just have to make sure your PTV clearance is adequate with the cam fully retarded. The computer will be able to command it within about 2 seconds of achieving idle RPM anyway. so in other words, I'm way overthinking this aspect of the sw...

Re: Variable Valve timing.

I was thinking about this earlier, why not grind the lobes after the cam is assembled, and then take it back apart and clean it? As long as you have a fixture to maintain the outer and inner in a known orientation, then you could do that. as far as the phaser goes, this was on Mechdynes home page. ...

Re: The Mule rides again (sort of) - pics.

if it's far enough to engage the pinch bolt, that's far enough for me. but there's also the possibility of getting a shaft from another vehicle, GM used these columns all over the place... I'll look into that when I have a little more time... Just got laid off, so I'm trying to figure out what's up...

Seen this before, very cool, very complicated, I'd love to do it, but I don't see it as feasible, or at least, not as feasible as concentric cams.

Re: Variable Valve timing.

Didn't say it wasn't possible... just a manufacturing challenge. There's nothing in the design of the concentric cam that can't be made by a decent machine shop. Getting the movable lobes ground may be challenging. Had any thoughts about how to control the two-axis setup? The photos I've seen of th...

Re: Variable Valve timing.

The part about this that I really like, if I can retrofit the high value, why couldn't it be done on a VCT LSx? :good: Some of the Gen IV LS* motors have single-channel variable cam timing (total advance/retard), so you can get a block with provisions for an actuator. the LSx uses a similar setup t...

Re: Variable Valve timing.

for shits and giggles, I built three 3500's in desktop dyno, all three used the same cam lobes, just the timing changed. 224/214 duration @.050 .573/.565 lift the theoretical 3500 produced within 10% of peak torque across a spread of 3500 RPMs(3200-6700 RPMs) peak difference between the low end and ...

Re: My NEW turbo setup

I plan to use aluminum fuel line for all of my vacuum and boost lines so that I don't have to worry about collapsing or bursting.

Re: The Mule rides again (sort of) - pics.

I'm thinking about it... there are a couple of things I'd do differently.. like adding pilots on the spacers to make sure the spherical washers stay centered. Also, a production "kit" *should* have an updated steering shaft. if it's far enough to engage the pinch bolt, that's far enough f...

Re: Variable Valve timing.

I'm not sure on that aspect of it, but I bet there are ways around that for an individual who isn't planning on mass production. Patents don't matter when making stuff for personal use. They're only an obstacle if you want to sell a product. The patents are actually a good thing in your case, becau...

any chance of the anti dive spacers being produced? or the dimensions being made available?

Re: Variable Valve timing.

The Viper engine uses Mechadyne's variable camshaft technology. Refer to the following patents: http://www.google.com/patents/US6725818 http://www.google.com/patents/US6182362 http://www.google.com/patents/US6253719 http://www.google.com/patents/US6725817 I stumbled across their stuff late last wee...

Re: Variable Valve timing.

I don't doubt there would be quite a bit of engineering required to make it happen. Right now, I'm mainly looking into packaging the necessicary hardware, to see if this is even feasible. when I get my hands on a 3900 timing cover and phaser, I'm going to email mechadyne and see if there's a dual ch...

Re: Variable Valve timing.

Are you trying to do what they did with the Viper and convert it to separately variable intake and exhaust? The viper only varies the exhaust lobe timing, so in theory, the 3900's phaser would work, but yes, I'm researching the possibilities of making it happen now. it'll probably be a year or two ...

Re: Variable Valve timing.

nothing yet, just doing research on the VVT motors, as I would like to swap one in my car in the future, but I was thinking about making a few changes while I was in there, some small, some not so much. unfortunately, I have come to the conclusion that the 3900 phaser won't do what I need it to do, ...
