Re: 3500/LX9 Build Thread

Between moving the car from the engine pull location due to a change of residence, changing jobs, full time work, and getting distracted swapping a new SBC and getting my pickup truck road-ready I havn't made a lot of progress, just amassed parts so far. I'll be buying a centerforce clutch and a fly...

The plugs would still have to be able to accept the right pins for RPM signal... I guess they all do?

It sounds like it's the right box and it's in good working condition, just what I need.

Just let me know if you can find the service number Atilla? Paypal is standing by.

It's true... so it is a 7730?

As long as the ECU is complete with the memcal, plugs etc etc nothing removed and it's a 7730 from a DIS car, I'll take!

Thanks.

A 7730 you say?

It's from an aluminum head 3.1L with coil packs, not distributor?

If so, I'll take it, does it come with the connectors though??

Wheel offset spacers? Discuss?

I pulled my wheels off and found spacers behind them, a shame cause they are cool looking and LIGHT rims... the spacers look to be universal style made of cheap paper weight Aluminum, they can't be more than 5mm thick. I hear they just mess up the balance of your car and can possibly be dangerous? I...

Also, there is a tastey beefy steel crank in the larger car applications (the SUV/van 3500s) that is apparently bulletproof according to those that have inspected it, and yes, oil squirters on the pistons that need them the most, 5 and 6 I think. The other features associated with aluminum head engi...

Ok, Stella Artois induced informative update (Stella induces many of my actions lately...). The cradle is nearly ready to drop, I got a couple days off so work is progressing nicely. Brakes lines are tied up, fuel lines are taken care of, trans lines are tucked away, harness is sitting in a disconne...

Everything I took so far is in that slideshow, there will be lots more as the cradle comes out, aluminum bushings go in, welded mounts come out to play, and I start adding bits like the old style DIS and fuel rail/injs.

3500/LX9 Build Thread

Pictures will continue to find their way into slideshows, for now my progress stops right before the cradle comes out. I've got a lot of work lately so I fit in hours wrenching from 8-12PM, this will be a slow build but I've set a goal of 1 month. http://img89.imageshack.us/slideshow/player.php?id=i...

So the cradle itself can make a difference over new shock/springs etc. on a pre 88, and an 88 cradle with similar new parts is even better again? For some reason I thought there was a point where the 88 cradle became redundant because of all the new parts added to the old cradle but apparently I'm w...

Whats the advantage of swapping an 88 cradle VS simply doing full suspension/mount swap and swaybar add on a pre 88 though...?

That's a lot of torque all the time.

Kinda makes you feel inadequate with a bigger engine making less eh??

Poly is great for convenience... where can you get a "full AL bushing kit"? I'd be interested to check one out, seeing as the cradle is coming out and a 3500 is going in, alum mounts would be pretty nice. What's the big deal about 88 cradles? Isn't a pre 88 with an aftermarket swaybar just...

The DI ecotec just makes me wonder about the torque curve/powerband, I know the turbo will help loads, but it's still small displacement/4cyl... Aluminum head 60*V6 are a pretty decent platform for turbo, forget that iron head 2.8-3.4 junk, they wont make nearly as much power even with turbo/blowers...

yes - BUT - they actually go DOWN as the RPM's shoot up On the R6 the trumpets go up at a certain RPM. Between the trumpet and the new end of the runner is now a gap, about 1-2", for the new trumpet to breathe from. When the RPM's go down, the long runner lowers back onto the short runner. Loo...
